Peggy Louise (Baker) Nichols, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 29, 2025 at Wesley Manor Retirement Community. Peggy's values in life were obvious through her faith, kindness, nurturing nature, and the love she showed towards others. Peggy was born in Beaver Dam, Kentucky to Leonard and Ruby Baker and had an older brother, Richard Baker. Spending her childhood in Eastern Kentucky coal mining towns, Peggy later attended and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University. Having grown up together, Peggy was married to the love of her life, William (Bill) Nichols, for 65 years. Together in Louisville, Kentucky they created a loving family with their children Elee Nichols Bingham (David), Robert Nichols (Terri), and Brian Nichols (Sheri). Peggy and Bill enjoyed a full life together filled with church activities, gardening, travel, tennis, snow skiing, golf, ballroom dancing, and most importantly time with family and friends.

If you knew Peggy, you know how much she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren - who deeply treasure the time spent with their Granny throughout their lives. Grandchildren: Bryan Jarvis, Anthony Nichols (Randi), Morgan Mills (Andrew), Lindsey Reide (Matt), Lily Bingham, and Ben Nichols. Great-grandchildren: Ryleigh Mills, Lucie Riley, Riley Nichols, Henry Riley, Maren Reide, Knox Mills, and Asher Reide. Peggy's drive, enthusiasm, compassion, competitive nature, and zest for life has shaped generations and she will live on through them.

A devoted Methodist and active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church (later Mosaic United Methodist Church), Peggy spent the final year and a half of her life in the care of Wesley Manor. The family is eternally grateful for the kind and attentive care provided by the staff as she battled Alzheimer's Disease. During this time, Bill also lovingly cared for Peggy and rarely left her side.

Peggy encouraged others through the way she lived her life with passion, positivity, and kindness. We find comfort knowing in rest she remembers all of the love, chapters, and memories. She is whole again and will always be missed.

Visitation will be Friday, October 3rd from 10:00am - 1:00pm with her Memorial Service at 1:00pm at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
