Penny Kelso Obituary

Penny Colleen Kelso, formerly Asher, passed from this life into her heavenly reward on Sunday 9/14/25, at her home in Lubbock, TX at the age of 67. Born on 8/11/58 in Marceline, MO to Harley and Betsy Asher, Penny touched the lives of many with her unwavering spirit of faith. She had a heart of gold and had a passion for animals, dedicating the majority of her career as a veterinarian.

Even as a young girl growing up on a dairy farm, she knew she wanted to spend her life caring and working with animals of all shapes and sizes. She was always business-minded and owned and operated several vet practices over the years in multiple states, including: Las Vegas, NV, Overland Park, KS, Big Lake, TX and Lubbock, TX.

Throughout her life and especially in her later years after retirement, Penny's love for helping others spilled over into various ministry opportunities, the most recent being with Lifewise Academy, an agency involved in bringing the gospel into public schools during academic hours.

As a very self-driven and motivated person, Penny had a love and a drive not only for work, but also for her family and kids. She never had a lack of enthusiasm and ambition for new adventures and activities. She frequently would take advantage of any opportunity to take trips and create lasting memories. Rarely was there an obstacle too great to stand in the way of her giving everything she could to her children and life as a whole. Her vibrant and unapologetic personality only added to the color and spark that radiated from her and deeply impacted those who knew and loved her.

Penny was a diehard patriot and also found a hobby in pickleball in more recent years. Her joyous spirit will be missed by all she leaves behind. Penny is survived by her brother Lane Asher of Marceline MO, her children Jonathan and his wife Elizabeth Kelso, Alicia Kelso, and Andrew Kelso of Lubbock, TX, several grandchildren: Johnathan, Kirsten, Ethan, Trista, Asher and Genesis, as well as two great-grandchildren Isaiah and Jeremiah. Penny had a whole slew of close friends who she also viewed as family. Her legacy is one we will always strive to carry on.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints". Psalms 116:15

Her favorite flowers were daisies and lilacs. Her favorite color was dark royal blue or a deep, dark purple. Other donations or contributions can be sent to Lifewise Academy at lifewise.org
