Pete Salazar Benavides, 80, passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2025, in Houston, Texas after living for almost a decade with renal failure. Pete was born on February 26, 1945, in Houston, Texas to Lucy and Pete G. Benavides.
From his first job delivering newspapers on his bike in downtown Houston to his career as a petrochemical engineer, Pete was a proud native Houstonian. Pete was a loving husband to his wife Gloria Villafranca Benavides. Together they celebrated over 58 years of marriage.
He is survived by his three daughters, Melanie Snader, Michele (Blue) Lege and Melissa (Anthony) Neiser.
His grandchildren who lovingly knew him as "Popo" are Ashleigh (Zeus) Belmontes, Joseph (Ashleigh) Garcia, Meagan Escalona, Triston Escalona, Brandon Snader, Amelia Neiser and Morgan Neiser, and great grandchildren Zeno Belmontes and Clover Garcia.
Also surviving Pete are his sisters, Lucy (Joe Ray) Ortiz, Dolores (Jerry) Jacobson, Beatrice Benavides and Patricia Foley. Preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, his parents, his sister Elizabeth Romo and his brother Robert S. Benavides.
