Peter Bruce Cunningham was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He cared for his family generously and lovingly and was surrounded by them at home in Plaistow, NH where he died on Friday, January 26, 2024 at age 83.
He was born in Portland, Maine in 1940 to Maurice and Charlotte Cunningham. He earned his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering at Merrimack College, and enjoyed a 39 year career at Bell Labs / Lucent Technology.
Early in his career, he met Helen Guerin, they married in 1966 and have lived an abundant life together for 58 years, primarily in Plaistow, NH where they raised their two children. As a father, he was supportive of all his children's pursuits and taught them about a variety of things including Morse code, HAM radio, skiing, electronics, car repair, woodworking, and a general ethos of DIY. It seemed he was capable of literally everything, and his wife and children believed there was nothing he couldn't do, build, or fix for them.
While skiing in Maine was a favorite pastime, the couple increasingly frequented Florida for winter and in 2001 they purchased a home at Mainlands in Pinellas Park, FL and became snowbirds. Peter was heavily involved in his community and in his local church.
Peter was a man of many gifts and talents, most especially though he is known for his woodworking skills. Many of his loved ones and friends have been the recipients of his work and cherish these gifts of his handiwork.
One of Peter's cherished roles was as Grampy to his five grandchildren. He attended many a horse show, soccer game, dance recital, and music concert to honor their achievements and always expressed his pride in each of them as they pursued their individual gifts and talents.
He served in the Air Force Reserves, Plaistow Lions Club, the Timberlane Music Association, Boy Scouts, and as part of the technical team at First Congregational Church of Kingston. In Florida, he was editor of the community newsletter, resident DJ, and everyone's go-to computer technician.
Peter was predeceased by his sister Ann Demtriou. In addition to his wife Helen (Guerin) Cunningham, he leaves his daughter Melissa (Cunningham) Theberge and husband Stephen Theberge of Plaistow, NH, his son Michael Cunningham and wife Heather (Goelzer) of Pembroke, NH. He also leaves five grandchildren, Emma, Claire, and Nora Theberge, and Hannah and Paul Cunningham.
Family and friends may visit Friday, February 2, 2024 from 4PM - 7PM at the Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 1PM, at First Congregational Church, 6 Church St., Kingston, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice of Bedford, NH.

Great great memories of a group of us from Bell Labs all bunking at Pete and Helen's ski chalet and skiing at Sunday River back in the 80's. Pete had the perfect "fun loving, go for it" attitude for skiing and was a great guy all around.
