Peter "Cuzzy" Maccarrone
Peter Maccarrone went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at the age of 78.
Peter, preceded in death by his adored wife, Marie, his mother and father, and his younger brother, Charles, is lovingly remembered by his children: his daughter, Claudia Maccarrone of East Stroudsburg; his sons, Paul Maccarrone, and his wife Cindi of Stroudsburg; and Anthony Maccarrone, and his wife Maryellen of East Stroudsburg; his grandchildren, Christian, Pietro, Paulie Jr., Kaia, Matteo, Giavanna, and Kendall; his "adopted son" Steve Schneiderman; and many nieces and nephews.
He was born April 9, 1947 in the Bronx, NY to Paul and Stella Maccarrone. He graduated from Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx, NY and was subsequently drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His stay in the Army would be a short one as the sudden passing of his father would force him to be honorably discharged and come back home to take on the responsibility of providing for his mother and 8-year-old brother. He married his childhood sweetheart, Marie McLoughlin, on April 3, 1971 and they would have 3 children: Claudia, Paul, and Anthony. In 1984, he took a job with the New York City Housing Authority's elevator division, from where he would eventually retire after 25 years.
Peter was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend. He was affectionately called Papi Cuzzy by his family, and Cuzzy by his friends and co-workers. He was known for his quick wit and incredible sense of humor. Whether it was a story about events at work, the recounting of a childhood memory, or his colorful opinion of the current state of New York Yankees baseball, he'd have you hysterical. But his love of cracking jokes was only exceeded by his love for his family. He worked hard every day and sacrificed to make a better life for his wife and children. After relocating the family to the Pocono Mountains in 1992, he continued to commute to NY city every day for over 15 years until he retired. In retirement, he and his wife enjoyed spending their time with the grandchildren, taking every opportunity to have them over to the house to eat, play the Wii, watch movies, and have sleepovers.
Peter was a cancer survivor, battled other health issues, and in the recent years had a few close calls, but the Lord got him through each of them. His family was convinced he had nine lives. More recently in Peter's life, through hearing God's word and the influence of his family, he came to an understanding of the Gospel message of God's salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and placed his trust in Him. He liked using the Youversion app on his phone to read the Bible, with his favorite books being the gospel of John and the Book of Revelation. We trust that he is now reunited with his wife in the presence of the Lord, forever.
Cremation services were provided by the William H Clark Funeral Home 1003 Main St, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 27th, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church 489 Haney Rd, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Service begins at 2pm.
