Peter Thomas Mansfield of
Greenville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, at the age of 74. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, known for his unwavering kindness, generosity, and thoughtful nature towards all who were blessed to know him. Peter leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished, particularly within his large Irish American family.
Peter was married to his wife Jane for 48 wonderful years, and together they raised three children, Kathryn, Andrew, and Robert, imparting to them a deep sense of love, faith, and service. He was a man who always sought to help others, especially those less fortunate than himself, embodying the teachings of his deeply held Catholic faith throughout his life. A dedicated parishioner at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Greenville, Peter was actively involved in church life, living his faith not just in prayer, but in every action he took.
Peter had a particular passion for mentoring others through multiple organizations in the Greenville community. He volunteered with prison ministry programs and delivered hope, healing, and a sense of connection to those who are incarcerated, helping them experience God's love, forgiveness, and the opportunity for transformation. He used the skills he developed in his successful professional career to help implement Greenville's Micro-loan Assistance and Financial Health (MICAH) program to rescue under-served individuals from predatory loans, so they achieve greater financial security. He was certified in South Carolina as a guardian ad litem for the family courts and represented children involved in contested custody and visitation cases. He also served on the Board of the Canterbury Counseling Center of Greenville, an organization whose mission is to provide quality pastoral care and counseling services to all seeking help in the community regardless of faith affiliation, ethnicity, or socio-economic status.
A proud graduate of King's College, Peter enjoyed a distinguished career in healthcare administration, with over 40 years of service. He was a fellow of the American College of Medical Practice Executives, recognized for his expertise and leadership.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Peter had an infectious enthusiasm for sports as a tennis (later pickleball) player and golfer. He was an avid fan of his beloved Boston Red Sox and Clemson Tigers college football team, whose victories were always celebrated in his home.
Peter's warmth, humor, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, extended family, and all who had the privilege of learning from him. His memory will live on in the values he instilled, the love he shared, and the numerous lives he touched.
Peter is survived by his wife, three children, three grandchildren, six siblings, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Peter leaves behind a family strengthened by his example of faith, generosity, and unconditional love.
