Peter Neale McKee, beloved disciple, husband, father, 'Grandad', brother, uncle, counselor, and friend was called home to be with the Lord in Heaven on August 14, 2024. Peter was 62 years old.
Peter was born on September 30, 1962 in Dallas, Texas, to K. Sherwood and Patricia McKee. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and went on to Stephen F. Austin University earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He had a successful career in the banking industry for nearly 40 years, retired in 2018, and began serving as a lay Biblical counselor with Denton Bible Church until the day he died.
Peter married the love of his life, Diane Severson, on October 1, 1988 in Dallas, Texas. Peter and Diane had two sons, Luke Allen, married to Katie, and Matthew Neale, married to Mary. Peter and Diane have four grandchildren, Leon Robert (3 years), Cooper Sherwood (3 years), Nora Mae (10 months), and Caleb Neale (expected December 2024).
When his sons were growing up, Peter was an extremely present and intentional father. Many days were filled with baseball, Boy Scout activities, camping trips, and various lessons in leadership and manhood. Peter never missed a baseball game, despite his demanding career, and even held a 'Man Ceremony' for his sons when they turned 16, ensuring they knew his love for them, God's love for them, and their identity as Godly men and disciples of Jesus Christ. Peter often brought home flowers to Diane and reminded her regularly of his love and commitment.
Peter was marked by his kindness, humor, passion to counsel and serve others, and strong faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ. He would often say, "The more I learn about Jesus, the more I know I don't know, and the more I know I need Him." He was a devoted husband to Diane, loving and intentional father to his sons, committed brother and uncle to his family, and selfless friend and counselor to many. Peter loved making others laugh and always had a 'dad joke' ready to share. Peter was committed to loving, leading, providing, protecting, and spiritually shepherding his family.
Peter's deeply rooted and established faith in Christ guided everything he did. He was kind, gentle, wise, loving, hardworking, and selfless. Peter had a significant and special impact on many and will be profoundly missed in all circles of his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 36 years, Diane; his son Luke and wife Katie and their children Leon, Cooper, and Nora Mae of Ponder; his son Matthew and wife Mary and their son, Caleb, of Prosper; his brother, Mark of Coppell; and his sister Martha and husband Mike Barton of Coppell; his mother-in-law Carolyn Severson of Lewisville; and his sister-in-law, Linda, and her husband, Judson Wood, of Flower Mound. Peter is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Kirsten and her husband Daniel Bucknam, and their son, Samuel, of Waco; nephew Truett Wood of Chicago, Illinois; Heidi and her husband, Aidan Colgan, of Panama City, Florida; niece Jennifer Barton of Plano; nephew Joshua Barton and his wife, Kelsey, and their son, Elijah, of Coppell; and Archie, his beloved pup of Flower Mound. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, K. Sherwood and Patricia McKee, and father-in-law Glenn Severson.
Services will be held at Denton Bible Church at 2300 E University Dr, Denton, Texas on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. A viewing will be at 10:00 am, a Celebration of Life ceremony at 11:00 am, and graveside service at The Flower Mound Cemetery at 1501 Flower Mound Rd, Flower Mound, Texas at approximately 2:00 pm.
In addition to flowers, donations can be made to Denton Bible Church (dentonbible.org) in Peter McKee's name.

The thing I remember most about Peter is the smile that was always on his face. He could light up a room and change the tone with that smile! Pete came to work with us at Texas Envelope way back in the mid 80's. He was very enthusiastic about his job and about wanting to get things right. He and I constructed a layout table to help us achieve maximum paper yield. It has beed a valuable tool for the company, and we still use it to this day. Peter only worked a Texas Envelope for a short time before he moved on to the banking industry, but he left a legacy and made our company better. Pete was a terrific man, a faithful follower of Christ and a good friend. He made the world a better place. We will all miss you Peter, and we look forward to seeing you again!

I first met Peter when our sons played baseball together nearly 25 years ago. Peter was a man of impeccable character which was a result of his foundational faith in Jesus Christ. Whenever our paths crossed Peter always had an encouraging word and a kindhearted welcoming demeanor. Peter was simply a special man who will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to know him.
