Peter "Newfie" M. Meade, 77, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Reading Hospital.

Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Stan and Mary (Gillis) Meade. Being part of a large family in Corner Brook, he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for his family. He moved to Nova Scotia, where he met Mary Jane Curran, who would become his wife. He enjoyed a long career as a car salesman, affectionately known to his colleagues and customers as Newfie.

Peter was a warm and genuine man who treated everyone he met with the utmost care and respect. Peter was a people person, being able to strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Peter also enjoyed playing cribbage, and watching hockey, whether it was the NHL or Trevor's hockey games. He spent his free time volunteering, between a wheelchair rugby league and spending time with those on hospice. He will be remembered for his caring spirit and his big heart.

Peter is survived by son, Trevor Meade and his wife, Tammi of Birdsboro, PA; daughters, Tarra Hughes, and Cindy Whiteway and her husband, Gerald, all of Nova Scotia, Canada; grandchildren: Jeremy Whiteway, Jonah Whiteway, Jared Whiteway, Tyler Meade, Collin Meade, Emily Hughes, Kendall Meade, Liam Meade, and Lily Meade; brothers: Dermot, Patrick, and Eugene Meade; and sisters: Joan Hanlon, Ruth Smith, Irene Meade, Doris Meade, and Janet Scott. He is also survived by his Aunt Eileen McDonald of Newfoundland. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald.

Low lie the Fields of Athenry

Where once we watched the small free birds fly

Our love was on the wing

We had dreams and songs to sing

It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry...

A Celebration of Life will be held in the future in Newfoundland.
