Peter (Pete) Resanovich passed peacefully on Saturday, June 7th, with his loving family by his side.
Pete was born on April 5, 1936 in Port Colborne, Ontario to Milos and Julika who had immigrated from the former Yugoslavia. He was the second of five boys born to the couple.
The family lived in Canada until 1945 when they moved to the SW end of Canton.
Pete attended Lincoln High School and afterward began working at Timken Steel in 1956. After a layoff from the company, he enlisted in the US Army in 1959 and served until 1963 when he was Honorably discharged. During his time in the US Army he was stationed in West Germany.
It was during his enlistment that he met Patricia Ballas, also of Canton, and in April of 1961 were married at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church (at the time on Dueber). In the years that followed they were blessed with two daughters and enjoyed a wonderful family life with fun and exciting family trips. In 1995 he and Patty moved to Bolivar, Ohio.
Late in 1996, Pete retired from the Timken Steel Company. In the years that followed he would continue to stay busy with work, social events, and enjoyed working at the Wilkshire Golf Course. Pete loved to be around family and friends and would often be heard exclaiming after his wife Patty decided it was time to leave that "can't leave now, the party's just getting started."
Pete loved his family and was very proud of them all, especially his four grandchildren. They were what brought him so much joy and he often could be caught slipping them a $20 whenever he got the chance, even if it was their birthday and he'd already given them a card and gift.
He was very proud of his Serbian heritage and was an active member at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church. Pete assisted in the construction of the church at its present site on Applegrove St in N. Canton which was completed in 1981.
Pete is survived by his wife Patty, daughters Dawn (Dan) Adkins of Florida, Shelley (Chris) McAfee of Green, grandchildren J.D. Adkins of Florida, Pete Adkins of North Carolina, Olivia and Jacob McAfee of Green, brother George of Canton, several nieces and nephews, and a world of friends.
Calling Hours will be Friday, June 13th from 4-7 pm at Lebold-Smith Funeral Home, 248 Park Ave SW Bolivar, OH. Service will be Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 11am at St George with visitation at 10am. Fr. Aleksa Pavichevich will officiate and burial will follow at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens on Frank Rd. Following services, a Daucha will be held at the St. George Serbian Center.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church 4667 Applegrove St NW, N. Canton, OH 44720 in memory of Pete. To share a memory, please visit the funeral home's web site.
