Peter P. Savino, of Scotland, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024. He was the son of the late Nicholas Savino and Esther (Chieco-Savino) Werner. He was born on December 5, 1934 in the Bronx New York. He was raised a with a strong Catholic faith and in a large Italian family, which is what brought him to Scotland CT, where he lived and worked with his Savino family on the farm. He met and married Lucille St. Germain in 1957 and they made their home in Scotland, raising their four children. Their home became a place for everyone to gather whether it was holidays or just Sunday spaghetti dinners with immediate family and extended family, he always had an open heart to all. "Poppy" as he was lovingly known by his grandchildren and great grandchildren was always ready to help no matter what the project; backhoe work, building stonewalls, planting trees, splitting wood, anything we needed Poppy was there. Eventually his daughter Karen coined the phrase to "just call 1-800-Poppy" and he will be there.
He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is predeceased by his wife of 66 years Lucille (St. Germain) Savino. He leaves his children; Paul Savino (Delores), Michelle Shifrin (Sam), Karen Shafer (Paul) and Michael Savino (Sheryl) and his 9 grandchildren whom he adored; Nick Shifrin (Sydney), Joseph Shifrin (Jordan), Rachel Zima (Colton), Valerie Savino (Brandon), Emily Savino (Andrew), Nash Shafer (Eveyln), Vanessa Moffitt (Jordan), Maggie Savino (Evan), and Anthony Savino. He also leaves his great grandchildren; Arlo Shifrin, Jillian Moffitt, Shia Shifrin, Mica Shifrin, Elliot Desjardins, and a new little one on the way. He also leaves behind many cousins and relatives in Scotland, Connecticut as well as Long Island and upstate New York.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, 46 Valley St., Willimantic, CT at 10am on Wednesday October 2, 2024.
