Peter Schellenberg, age 64, died Friday, November 1, 2024, at his home in Plains, Kansas. He was born June 28, 1960, in Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, Mexico, the son of Abraham and Helena (Wiebe) Schellenberg.
Peter grew up in Mexico and married Helena Fehr on August 22, 1982, in Cuauhtémoc. Their family moved to the United States in 1993. He enjoyed working in the dairy, his horses, cows and spending time with his grandkids. Peter also enjoyed traveling, visiting with everyone he met, and was known as being a jokester. He also enjoyed going to church and the time he spent helping people with addictions. Peter was a member of the New Reinlander Church.
Peter is survived by his wife, Helena of their home; children, Abraham of Plains, Lena Doerksen and husband, Corney, of Plains, and Anna Loewen and husband, Abe of Ponteix, Saskatchewan, Canada; grandchildren, Clayton and Cooper Schellenberg, Braden, Ryan and KC Doerksen, Gabriella, Nathaniel, Abigail, Josiah and Lydia Loewen; siblings, Henry, Wilhelm, Susana, Helena, Maria, Abram, Elisabeth, Aganetha, Katharina and Johan; step-sisters, Helena, Susana and Anna; and half-sisters, Magaretha and Judit.
Peter is preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Helena; stepmother, Kathrina; and brother Isaak.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at New Reinlander Church, 1020 E. 11th St., Hugoton. Interment will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton. Visitation will be Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 1:30 PM until 7:00 PM, and Monday, November 4, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home 920 E. 11th St., Hugoton.
