Peyton Chandler Massey, age 26, died June 12, 2025, of complications resulting from a suicide attempt. Peyton had been suffering from progressively worsening mental health issues over the last several years.

Peyton was a lifelong resident of Milledgeville, GA and had recently moved to Summertown, TN. He operated a forklift at Ryder in Springhill, TN.

If you saw a baseball, you thought of Peyton. His whole world was baseball from an early age. So much so that he was working on his ball grip before he could even walk.

He dedicated his time to recreation, travel and school ball. Peyton was a 2017 graduate from John Milledge Academy in Baldwin County, Ga. As a key player for JMA baseball, he was one of the stars who brough home a 2017 Championship win: the first for the school since 1993.

Although Peyton struggled to realize that he was worthy of love, he has left behind a community of mourning family and friends. His loved ones will cherish memories of the sweetest hugs, his precious smile and his kind spirit. We rejoice in the knowledge that one day we will be reunited in Heaven again.

We are grateful that with the gift of organ donations and God’s gracious miracles, multiple lives will be saved. Peyton is no longer with us in the physical realm, but his spirit survives in our memories, our love for each other, and in the people who will wake up to another sunrise because Peyton chose to honor the Great Redeemer through organ donation.

Preceded in death by his sister Brittney Danielle Massey and cousin Ronnie Rozier Jr., Peyton is survived by his mother and stepfather Vanessa and Scott Lance, his father and step mother, Mike Jr and Shawna Massey, brother Adam (Ellen) Massey and stepsister Kristine (Matt) Brooks. Grandparents are Ann Williams, Mike Sr and Susie Massey, and Glenn and Elizabeth Barnett. Peyton also left behind aunts, uncles and a host of beloved cousins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt Pleasant, TN. Also, the family invites all those that wish to memorialize Peyton to join them on June 28, 2025, at 11:00am at the Trojan Center located at John Milledge Academy, 197 Log Cabin Road, Milledgeville, GA.
