Philip Catuogno, a former longtime resident of Demarest, NJ, who retired to Ellicott, MD, in 1996, died peacefully on August 3, 2025 at the age of 96 at Sunrise of Woodcliff Lake. He was born February 18,1929 in a fifth-story walkup to his adoring first generation Italian immigrant parents, Anna and Anthony Catuogno. He graduated from high school in the Bronx in 1947,and subsequently served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Soon thereafter, while attending a wedding in the Bronx, he met a young woman from Worcester, Massachusetts whose family ironically emigrated from the same Italian town as his parents, Sorrento. After a two year courtship, traveling every weekend to Worcester before the luxury of interstate highways, in 1956 he married his 'Greatest Love of All', Rose Iaccarino. Ten months later, their first child was born. Phil was about family, including as Rose's devoted husband of 67years (who predeceased him in 2024), amazing father to Annmarie Schovee and Susan Weisel, tireless and ever expert DIY "Project Manager" for his sons-in-law, Tom Schovee and Tom Weisel, the ultimate Pop-Pop, always engaged in the lives of his grandchildren ( Danielle Sipf, married to Eric; Alexandra Sullivan, married to Kevin; Chris Weisel, married to Chloe; Allyson Haas, married to Taylor), the proud great-grandfather of three little ones (Madeline, Tripp and Colton), and with two more on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Roseanne Bonino, and her family, as well as many Iaccarino nieces and nephews. When remembering Phil's love for family, another love is inextricably linked: his love for Italian food, especially calamari, pasta of all sorts, and always dessert, with an emphasis on cannolis. With his qualities of patience, attention to detail, precise workmanship, a memory par excellence, and elite organizational skills, Phil was the multitasking manager of a construction supply company for over 30 years. In his spare time, he kept busy with jobs around the house, meticulous landscaping, and golfing with friends. In addition, he and Rose traveled extensively, planning multiple trips per year, both international and domestic. For his example as a person, as well as his enduring love as a father, Annmarie and Susan wish to express their eternal gratitude. A memorial service is planned for the fall. Donations can be made to the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy and the American Cancer Socety.
