Rose Angela Catuogno, 91, of Demarest, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Rose is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-seven years, Philip Catuogno; two daughters, Annemarie Schovee and her husband, Tom, of Severna Park, Maryland, Susan Weisel and her husband, Tom, of Old Tappan, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Danielle Schovee Sipf and her husband, Eric David Sipf, Jr, Alexandra Schovee Sullivan and her husband, Kevin Gerard Sullivan, Christopher Thomas Weisel and his wife, Chloe Rachel Cohen, Allyson Michele Haas and her husband, Taylor John Haas; three great grandchildren, Madeline Marie Sipf, Eric David "Tripp" Sipf III, and Colton Thomas Sullivan; her many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Iaccarino and Carl Iaccarino, and a sister, Michelina Fulginiti. Rose was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Raffaele and Maria (Ricci) Iaccarino. She lived in Worcester, Massachusetts for many years before moving to Bronx, New York, Demarest, New Jersey and Ellicott City, Maryland where she lived for the past seventy years. Rose attended Clark University, and earned undergraduate degrees in French and Elementary Education from Worcester State Teachers College. She ultimately earned a Masters in Education at Bank Street College of Education in New York, New York. Rose worked for many years in the Demarest School System teaching elementary and middle school students and was fondly known by her students as "Mrs. C". She was a member of Saint Joesph's Church in Demarest, New Jersey, and also, St. Louis Church in Clarksville, Maryland. Rose continued her passion for teaching children until she was 80, by substitute teaching in the Howard County School system in Maryland. She volunteered at the Johns Hopkins Hospital Howard County Medical Center, and was a member of the St. Louis Church Garden Club, and the Howard Community College Art Museum Club where she frequented all of the Baltimore and Washington D.C. art museums. Rose was adventurous, always willing to try something new; white water rafting, sailing, snow shoeing, and playing bridge, in her later years. She was an avid reader, amazing chef and baker, and exercised daily, walking her neighborhoods, in Demarest, New Jersey and Ellicott City, Maryland. Rose was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and her greatest enjoyment in life was being surrounded by her family. A service and "Celebration of Life". Gathering for Rose will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at the home of her daughter, Susan Weisel, 42 Kristin Place, Old Tappan, New Jersey from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to: The Alzheimer's Association.
