Philip P. Spates Jr.

Hampton – Philip P. Spates Jr., 75, of Hampton, New Hampshire, passed away on June 25, 2024. Born on November 6, 1948, in Beverly, Massachusetts, Phil was known for his wit and resourcefulness, mastering trades throughout his life. From his early days as a second-class fireman to his adeptness at fixing just about anything, he left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.
Phil served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Thailand. His military tenure instilled in him a discipline and resilience that he carried throughout his life, influencing both his personal and professional endeavors.
Phil's legacy continues through his family, including his sister Eleanor and her husband of Somersworth, NH; his ex-wife Kathleen Spates of Somersworth, NH; his sons, Philip P. Spates, III and his girlfriend Alicia of Nashua, NH, Richard E. Spates and his fiancé Sarah of Hampton, NH, and Christopher J. Spates of Somersworth, NH; and his daughter Andrea Audet and her husband Rick of Berlin, NH. He was a proud grandfather to Randy, Ryan, Devon, Nixon Lawton-Spates, Jeremy Perschy and granddaughter Lindsay Spates. He leaves behind several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Phil was preceded in death by his father, Philip P. Spates; his mother, Ruth Rand and his sisters Lois Grant and Geraldine Godfrey Marcum.
A celebration of Phil's life will be held at a later date. His humor, spirit, and the countless lives he touched will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
