PHILIPP ROMAN OSTROVSKY, 34, passed away Saturday February 27, 2021. Roman died at our home in Phoenix wanting to be with the family in his last hours.

Roman is preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, Pete and Yetta Ostrovsky, and George and Marie Lashnits. They deeply loved him and are now united with him for eternity. Roman is survived by his parents, Eric Ostrovsky and Nancy M Lashnits; his sister Galina Ostrovsky; his beloved niece Starla Ostrovsky; and many cousins, aunts and uncles, and friends.

Roman was born and lived the first five years of his life in Moscow, Russia. Through a miraculous Russian bureaucratic process, he was born again to his real parents Eric and Nancy when they traveled to Moscow to bring him home. He was so happy to come home to America.

Roman started out his life in America in Washington, D.C., then we moved to Portland, Oregon. He was spotted by the movie director Gus Van Sant, and appeared in the film Elephant. Roman graduated from Lincoln High School, Portland, in 2005; and attended Community Colleges in Portland and Scottsdale, where he attained his Associate's Degree. He also graduated from the Corden Bleu Chef's School in Scottsdale. More recently he has done food blogs and webinars of his cooking. His other love was gardening.

Dear Nancy & Eric,

We last saw Roman 2 years ago at your house in Phoenix. Roman was cradling Starla in his arms. I remember that afterward, our friend from grad school (who was
with us because we were spending a week at her timeshare in Scottsdale) was quite impressed and remarked how well he cared for the baby. So there was quite a tender side of Roman.

We will always remember Roman as that fun and energetic little boy visiting Miami for the first time, after his arrival from Russia. He was so excited upon seeing his first coconut. We opened it up and everyone drank the milk. his enthusiasm and great sense of humor will be sorely missed but fondly remembered.

He really was a true friend and genuine loving person. Roman only ever tried to help people and make them happy, if this is not the best example of how we all should be treating each other then there is still a long way to go for Love.

Very sad to hear of Roman’s passing. He was always so full of life & energy. We send healing comfort & lots of love to Eric, Nancy, Galina & family. We are always here for you & we love you very much. We know Roman was always so appreciative of all the love you showed him & he is always with you, just in a different form. Try to remember that in those difficult moments. ♥
