Phillip Lemons Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center on Mar. 25, 2023.
Phillip D. Lemons, 74 of Mooresville, gained eternal rest on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023, at 9:40 pm at the Franciscan Health Hospital in Indianapolis. He was the only child born to the late Charles Robert and Viola Marguerite (Sparks) Lemons. Phillip was born in Martinsville, Indiana, on Sunday, March 6th, 1949.
He spent most of his life in Morgan County except for seventeen years in South Carolina. On April 12th, 1967, Phillip married the love of his life, Shirley Jean (Thatcher) Lemons. The two shared fifty years of marriage and were blessed with four children and a host of beloved grandchildren prior to her passing on September 1, 2017.
Phillip worked at Navistar Inc. in Indianapolis for seventeen years and retired in 1986. Shortly after his retirement, he began a second career as a truck driver. He worked for various trucking companies from 1986 to 2021, retiring for a second time from his most recent employer, W.R. Beach Inc. in Indianapolis.
He was a longtime member of the Liberty Christian Church in Martinsville. He also held memberships at the V.F.W. Post #1111, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Post #3988, where he was actively involved, both in Mooresville.
A man with hardworking ethics and Christian morals, Phillip adored his family and cherished time spent with them. He absolutely loved the outdoors and he especially enjoyed camping and fishing.
He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his son, Jason (wife, Crystal) Lemons of Mooresville, IN; three daughters, Holly Campbell of Greenville, SC, Shawnna (husband, Derrick) Henderson of Travelers Rest, SC, and Heather Lemons of Mooresville; twelve grandchildren, Zaine, Joey and Charlie-Ann Lemons, Caleb and Chase Campbell, Zachery and Alleigh Gregson, Kaitlynn, Clay, Jacob and Abby Lloyd and Dakota Diaz; and seven great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, March 27th, 2023, from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Neal & Summers Funeral Home in Martinsville and from 10:00 am – 11:00 am on Tuesday at Liberty Christian Church. A service celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 28th, 2023, at Liberty Christian Church, 2010 Liberty Church Road in Martinsville. He will be laid to rest beside his late wife, Shirley, in Pleasant Bethel Cemetery in Worthington, Indiana, following the funeral service.
Contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society in Phillip's memory.

Phil and I worked together at Navistar as chippers. I couldn´t have found a better man to work with. Sorry to hear he has passed.

I am so sorry to learn of the death of my cousin Phillip. His father, Charles and my mother Opal were siblings.
I remember several family gatherings in Martinsville when Phillip and I would go wandering and looking for great outdoor adventures. We did the same in Speedway and he enjoyed how close we lived to the race track. We also had great adventures in the barn and grounds where our grandmother lived in Martinsville.
But once he graduated he went off to other things like family, job and others. I went off to college and we just never saw each other much after that. I lost track of him when he moved to South Carolina.
Fond memories of those early days walking around in the woods and fields surrounding my parents house .
