Phyllis Fleet Obituary

She grew up in Cordele, Georgia and graduated from Crisp County High School in 1943. After high school, Phyllis attended Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee, graduating in 1947, as part of the last graduating class of FSCW. She taught high school shorthand for a short time. In 1949 she married Edwin Fleet, of Tallahassee, and they were happily married for over 73 years. She worked with Edwin in his retail business, Fleet's Feminine Fashions, in downtown Tallahassee, until 1967. She worked for many years as an executive secretary for Giltex Corporation and beginning in 1980 for the FSU Athletic Department, retiring in 1992. Phyllis was an active member and past president of the Temple Israel Sisterhood. She was an avid Seminole football fan. She always loved hosting family and friends for tailgates, football watching parties, holiday celebrations, or informal get togethers. She was the hostess with the mostest.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Gabe and Pauline Singer, her brother Jerry Singer, and her husband Edwin Fleet. She is survived by her sister Jo (Erwin) Fleet; children Lanie Cohan (Bob Cohan), Judy Fleet, Bobby (Janis) Fleet, Michael (Beth) Fleet; grandchildren Lauren Trexler (Zach Young), Eli (Mimi) Fleet, Jared Fleet, David Trexler, Krystol Fleet, Josh Fleet (Dori Parker), Talia Fleet, Ariella Fleet (Jordan Jurinsky); and great grandchildren Hayden Trexler, Cameron Jurinsky, Grant Fleet, Avery Fleet, Emma Fleet, Maayan Fleet, Avi-Lev Fleet, Mason Fleet, and Norah Jo Jurinsky.
A funeral service will be held graveside in Oakland Cemetery, 838 Bronough Street, Tallahassee, FL on Wednesday January 24th at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Temple Israel, FSU Foundation, or River Garden Hebrew Home. Todd Wahlquist is assisting the family with their arrangements (850-385-2193, www.bevisfh.com).

Visiting in the home on Waverly in the kitchen and having shmooze time with her. With Lanie and our AEPhi sisters and Michael. lol. Love in the home was ever present.

Phyllis was a very loving, giving friend. Got to know Phyllis really well when we both worked in administration for FSU Athletics. Phyllis was the Administrative Secretary for Athletic Director, Bob Goin.
She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. God Bless. Sue Hall
