Phyllis J. Hediger

Phyllis J. Hediger, 92, of Champaign, IL, formally of Peoria, IL, died on September 16, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
She was born on May 8, 1932, to Howard and Ozella Barnes in Peoria, IL. Phyllis married John E. Smith in 1950. She later married Larry R. Hediger in 1986 and he survives.
Phyllis is further survived by four children: John (Glenna) Smith of Edwards, IL, Kevin (Cindy) Smith of Goodfield, IL, Tonya (Dave) Davis of Hickory, NC, and Tracie (Mike) Hediger of Champaign, IL; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by four brothers: Ronald Barnes, Robert Barnes, Jerry Eakle, Garry Barnes, and one sister, Collette Barnes.
Phyllis graduated from Flamingo Beauty College in Peoria, IL, and worked in her own business as a hairdresser for over 40 years. She enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas with her husband, Larry, as well as shopping trips to various malls. She especially enjoyed hosting the holidays and birthdays for her family over the years. Phyllis was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and was very proud of her children and grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, IL. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Central Illinois Autism Association.
