Phyllis Hettmansperger, 93, a life-long resident of Markleville, passed away on March 5, 2023. She was born on July 18, 1929, in Anderson, the daughter of Clifford and Mildred Keesling.
Phyllis was a graduate of Markleville High School and went on to obtain a degree from Ball State University.
She had been a bookkeeper at Markleville Junior High and East Elementary School for many years. Phyllis retired from East Elementary School in 1992. She was active at Ovid Community Church, where she taught Sunday school classes and was very active in the Mary Martha Circle. Phyllis enjoyed playing the piano, singing in the church choir and with a church trio, and was also a soloist for funerals and weddings.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Frank "Hank" Hettmansperger, her parents, and her brother, Donald Keesling.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Karen Gernand (Tom) and Brian Hettmansperger (Diane); her grandchildren, John Gernand (Jennifer), Matthew Gernand (Loan), Brian Hettmansperger, Jr. (Sarah), and Bradley Hettmansperger (Emily); and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 10, from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd Street, Anderson, followed by a funeral at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Keith Wooden officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to Ovid Community Church or Riley Children's Foundation for Riley Children's Hospital.
