Phyllis Giesting Knechtly, 74 of Miamisburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully July 8, 2025, at Ohio Hospice Center of Dayton, Ohio. Cremation of the body is under the supervision of Newcomer Funeral Home of Centerville, Ohio.
Phyllis was born April 26, 1951, in Connersville, to Richard and Rita Giesting. She attended St. Gabriel's Catholic Schools and graduated from Connersville High School in 1969. After high school, Phyllis attended Indiana University School of Nursing and received her BS in nursing in 1973. Phyllis's entire career revolved around her nursing specialties, and her last ten years in nursing were dedicated to teaching future nurses.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 53 years, John Knechtly; her children, Brian E. Knechtly (Cara), Erin L. Amlin (Andrew); and five grandchildren, Henry Amlin, Lucy Amlin, Eleanor Amlin, Graham Knechtly and Colin Knechtly. Also surviving are siblings Jerome Giesting, M.D. (Janet), Dale Giesting, D.D.S. (Mary), Barbara Chaplin, Marvin Giesting (Kim), Robert Giesting (Christine), sister-in-law Mae Smith, and many nephews and nieces.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, Richard Giesting, mother, Rita Giesting, and infant brother Edward.
Phyllis had a warm and kind personality, always greeted and liked by those who knew her well. She had a heartfelt admiration for her grandchildren that could never have been missed, as she often reported to friends their individual accomplishments.
A Funeral Mass will take place at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church on July 15. Burial will follow at Saint Anne's Catholic Cemetery in Hamburg at a later date.
