WILCHER, Roger E., age 78, of Miamisburg, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Roger graduated from Waynesville High School, class of '66. He honorably served the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He went on to build a hardworking life, working for six years at Dayton Tire and Rubber, field work, and spending time in construction. He retired in 2006 after more than ten years of service as an equipment operator for Sand & Gravel Construction Company.
Roger was a man who truly enjoyed the outdoors and the freedom that came with it. From a young age, he developed a love for horses through 4-H, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. Over the years, he became involved in harness racing at the Lebanon Raceway, where he spent time as both a trainer and driver. The track and the horse community remained a special part of his life. He also enjoyed fishing wherever the opportunity presented itself, whether that meant casting a line at the gravel pit where he worked or spending time at Caesar Creek Lake.
He loved motorcycles and the sense of adventure that came with the open road, taking many memorable trips along the way. Some of Roger's happiest moments were spent with family. He loved camping trips in the family's pop-up camper. He eagerly looked forward to spring each year for the family tradition of mushroom hunting. Exploring parks and favorite wooded spots in search of morels became a cherished tradition that he passed down. Roger also enjoyed gardening and tending to his flowerbeds. He took pride in tending to his small garden at home, where tomatoes always found their place. Roger will be remembered as an energetic, outgoing, and personable man who saw the good in everyone. He was hardworking, dependable, and deeply devoted to caring for those he loved, especially his wife Vicki. Among many things, he will be remembered for the love and pride he had for his wife and family and the memories he made with them.
Roger was preceded in death by his son, Dale Wilcher; his daughter, Kim McLester; his parents, Eugene Wilcher and Sarah Davenport; his two brothers, Terry Wilcher and Robert Wilcher; and his sister, Ruth Lee. He is survived by his loving wife, Vicki Harder; his son, William Harder; his daughter, Ami Ripley; his grandchildren, Samuel, Jayden, Madelynn, Jaylinn, and Jaylah; one great-grandchild, Delilah Jean Napier; his two brothers, Russell (Blanche) Wilcher and Robin (Elaine) Wilcher; and his sister, Rita Ling.
