Phyllis Marie Albury Owens was born on October 9, 1940, on the beautiful Island of Key West, Florida, to the late Gertrude Albury and George Collins. As a child of only 9 years old, following the untimely passing of her beloved mother, Phyllis and her siblings, Betty and Robert, were relocated to Boynton Beach, Florida. They were lovingly taken in by their relatives, William Albury, Sr. and his wife Eliza, along with their 9 children. Phyllis was raised in a God-fearing Adventist home, where the core values and teachings of the Three Angels Adventist message were instilled in her heart. In this nurturing environment, she learned the importance of responsibility, faith, and kindness, which helped her become the beautiful and resilient woman she was.
Education
Phyllis received her early education at Douglas High School in Key West, FL, and Poinciana Elementary School in Boynton Beach, FL. She later graduated from Carver High School in Delray Beach, FL, in 1959. Education was always a priority, and she carried those values throughout her life.
Spiritual Life
In 1985, Phyllis reconnected with the Daughter of Zion Seventh-day Adventist Church during a revival under the leadership of Pastor David King, Sr. It was there that she made the decision to be rebaptized by Pastor Clarence Wright, reaffirming her faith in Christ and her commitment to the Adventist Church. Her spiritual journey was marked by her deep love for the Lord and her dedication to sharing His Word.
Career and Service
Phyllis devoted 34 years of service to Bethesda Memorial Hospital, where she worked with compassion and dedication. Her role there was not just a job, but a callingshe carried the gospel with her wherever she went, offering kindness and encouragement to those around her. Her legacy is one of love, service, and unwavering faith.
Passing
On Friday, December 6, 2024, Phyllis peacefully fell asleep in the arms of Jesus Christ and is awaiting His soon return.
She was preceded in death by her parents- George Collins & Gertrude Albury and William & Eliza Albury; uncles- David Albury and Donald Albury; aunts- Ella Johnson and Conetta Key; brothers- Joseph Albury, Thomas Albury, Willie Albury, Leonard Albury, Carrol Albury, Nathanial Albury, Anthony Albury, and Robert Isact; sister- Mary Ruth Williams; sisters-in-law- Emma Albury, Lerlene Albury, and Hazel Albury.
Phyllis Marie Albury Owens leaves behind a legacy of devotion to family and faith. She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving and devoted children- Joe Owens, Cheryl (Terrance) Williamson, Sonya (Steve) Green, Lawrence (Kalisha) Allen, Bernard Kelly, and LaToya (Maurice) Aikens; sisters- Betty Jones Webster, Margaret Albury Broomfield; sister/cousin Nietha (Othaniel) Gayle; sisters-in-law- Shirley Pickett, Louise Albury, Frances Albury-Davis; grandchildren- Lashunda, Stevon, Veronica, Antoine, Tyrice, Jessica, Joshua (Olivia), Andrew, Ashley (Gregory), Quanardia, Lakeshia, Sakiya, Jalen, Levon, Keishuna, Stevarius, Reshard, Decarius, Jevante, Jeremy and Asia-Sherice; God-children- Nicki Mccray and Shalinda Williams; and a host of great-grands, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Special friends- Judy Scott, Beate Jerkins, Mattie Jackson, Julia Frazier, Mae Eva Mclaggan, Mavis Perry-Holley, Helen Millines, Minister Helen Gamble-Lindsay, Sylvia Thompson, Willie Kelly and The Williams Family.
May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that her life was one well-lived in the service of others and the glory of God. Though she has departed this world, her spirit will continue to inspire and guide those who loved her.
