Phyllis Petras Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burroughs Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Jan. 21, 2026.
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our mother Phyllis Jean (White) Petras of Murrells Inlet, S.C. formally from Freeport PA. on Monday January 19, 2026. Mom was born October 15, 1946 and was 79 years old. She graduated from Freeport Area High School in 1964 and soon after she married the love of her life Edward Petras on November 27, 1965. Her life was defined by love, devotion, and family. She was the proud mother of three children, Shawn (Tracy) Petras, Michael (Terri) Petras, and Gayle (Jason) Hindman. She found her greatest joy being a stay -at-home mom. She never missed a sporting event, lovingly prepared every meal around the table and kept a warm home filled with care and laughter.
Her laugh was truly infectious and could brighten any room. Family meant everything to her and Christmas was her favorite time of year. Our home in Freeport was filled with cherished memories of holiday gatherings, love, music, and togetherness. She had an "open door" for everyone, friends, neighbors or anyone who simply needed a place to stop, talk and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee.
She loved to bake, especially at Christmastime when the table was always overflowing with her famous Christmas cookies, and her family favorite-orange cookies. Mom also loved being in the sun, she had a green thumb, with a passion for working in her yard and tending to her flowers.
When her 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren were born, her heart grew even fuller. Taylor (Patrick) Moore, Madison (Zach) Wells, Seth (Jacqueline Pina) Petras, Kyleigh Jarosinski, Mackenzie Petras, and Ava Hindman. Great Grandchildren, Luca Pina-Petras, Miles Moore and Bryson Wells. Mom loved looking at pictures of the kids, that filled her heart with so much joy. She wore the title "Grammy" with pride.
After many years of vacationing to Myrtle Beach S.C. mom and dad decided to retire in Murrells Inlet S.C. in 2009. They had so many favorite places they would explore together along the coast. She loved watching the ocean, sitting in her favorite swing in Myrtle Beach Start Park, and her church family. Dad truly was her best friend and they just celebrated their 60 years of marriage together.
Mom was proceeded in death by her parents, William T. White and Marjorie Schwietering White, her sisters, Gayle Allison White, Joyce (White)Ralston and sister in laws, Patricia and Ginny White
She is survived by her loving husband Edward J Petras, her brothers Jack White of Lower Burrell PA, Bill White of Lake Forest California, Mark (Vicki) White of Butler PA, Paul (Cyndee) White of Sarasota FL, along with many nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank the entire staff of Heartland Hospice who gave our dad so much love and support so that he could care for our mom and give her wish to be at home in her final days on earth. She will be deeply missed by so many, both near and far. You can breathe easy mom, your love, warmth, and spunky spirit will live on forever in our hearts.
