Phyllis Ann Wiggans, 93, of Chandler, Oklahoma, passed away on November 1, 2025, at Stroud Regional Medical Center. She was born on October 5, 1932, in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Willard Gordon Collins and Anna Grace (Maybury) Collins.
Phyllis earned her Bachelor's Degree in Early Elementary Education from Eastern Nazarene College in Boston, Massachusetts. Her love of teaching and her adventurous spirit led her to a career in the Army as a civilian, where she taught children in Germany. Later she moved to Alaska to continue her teaching career. While living in Alaska, she embraced life as a true pioneer woman-building her own log cabin, using a sled dog for her transportation, and finding beauty and peace in the wilderness. It was there she met her husband, Everett Hugh Wiggans, and the two were married on July 18, 1966, in Carson City, Nevada. They then moved to Missouri and various parts of the southern US.
Phyllis was a lifelong artist painting and drawing. She created cards, cartoons, and illustrations that brought joy to her friends and family. A devout Christian, she was active in various churches throughout her life and lived each day with quiet faith and compassion for others. She shared her love of Jesus with everyone she met.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah (Stephen) Merrick of Chandler, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Haley Merrick, Kayci Merrick, and Courtney Robyn Merrick; her sister, Carolyn Morneau; and sister-in-law, Edith Harrington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett Wiggans; sisters, Delores O'Neal; and brother, Gordon Collins.
Interment will take place in Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Atlanta, MO, and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date in Chandler, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon, MO.
