Phyllis Zoltek Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nelson Funeral Care - Cloquet on Feb. 18, 2025.
The Lord will have a special place in Heaven for Phyllis "Casey" L. Zoltek. Casey was born to Bertil and Dorothy Munter in St. Mary's Hospital on September 22, 1942. She was raised on a small farm south of Carlton, Minnesota. Casey was a cheerleader for Carlton High School and was voted prom queen. After graduating in 1960, she did some modeling for Shopper's City in Duluth, Minnesota and then worked for a bank in Minneapolis.
Casey returned to the farm in Carlton. She met and later married John Jugasek, and they were blessed with a son, Michael. Unfortunately, the marriage did not last long. Casey then met and married Richard Casey, and they moved to Janesville, Wisconsin. They were blessed with two sons: Stevie, who sadly died in infancy, and later, Paul. While living in Wisconsin, Casey obtained her real estate license and began working in a real estate office with two other co-workers named Phyllis. She took the name Casey to avoid confusion and from that time forward, the name stayed with her. Though she never held office as a politician, Casey added running for Wisconsin State Representative to her resume. The highlight of her campaign was meeting astronaut, Jim Lovell. Her second marriage ended, and she went on to meet and marry Steve Zoltek. Casey moved to Medinah, Illinois with her two boys and joined Steve's family of five children. It became a full-time job just running their household. Not being one to sit still, she also worked for building contractors and managed new housing projects. Unfortunately, due to the economic downturn, she was not able to stay employed. She then became the food and beverage manager at Salt Creek Golf Course where she developed her love for the game of golf. After many years together, her marriage to Steve ended and Casey moved back home to care for her sick mother. She began working at Pine Hill Golf Course in Carlton. While working at Pine Hill, she met Greg Erickson and told him that "she was just no good at marriage," but they went on to be partners for almost 23 years. Casey passed away peacefully with Greg at her side on February 13, 2025.
Casey was preceded in death by her mother and father; sons, Stevie and Paul; and sisters, Jan, Shirley, and Carol. She is survived by her son, Michael (Heather); sister, Mary (Mark); and her best kitty friend, Jett.
Casey's family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the Essentia Oncology Department with special thanks to Dr. Ketchum, Teri, and Rachael. They also wish to thank the Essentia Hospice team, who were angels in a time of despair. Many thanks to Matt, Jennifer, and Conner; and two special angels, Lindsay and Kristi.
At Casey's request there will be no services held.
