It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Plácido Silveira Melo, who left us peacefully on August 15th, 2025. Born in São Mateus, Azores, he dedicated his life to hard work, kindness, and service to others.

Plácido was a skilled butcher and played a pivotal role in his community, always lending a helping hand. He was deeply involved with the Holy Ghost traditions in his hometown and served as a leader in the Boy Scouts, inspiring young minds. His commitment to the Casa de Povo showcased his love for his fellow community members.

In pursuit of a better life for his family, Plácido made the courageous decision to move to the United States, overcoming a language barrier and numerous challenges. His brother Roberto, along with his wife Celeste and many friends, played a vital role during this transition, offering support and guidance that helped the family settle into their new home. This collective sacrifice created opportunities for his beloved children, Renato and Débora, which he cherished deeply.

A devoted husband, Plácido shared a profound love with his wife, Mena, since they were teenagers. Their bond was an inspiring testament to love and loyalty. Mena was his rock, and their partnership was marked by unwavering support and devotion. Plácido valued the friendship he had with his son-in-law Darnell, who has always been a great gift to his family, as well as with Maria João Carreiro, who brought joy and laughter to his life.

Plácido's heart overflowed with love for his grandchildren: Jordan, Leila, Gabriela, Juliana, Maxwell, and Levi. He cherished every moment spent with them, sharing stories and laughter, which brought him tremendous joy.

He is survived by his beloved siblings: Roberto Melo, Maria João Moules, and Graça Moules. Plácido is remembered not only for his hard work and leadership but also for his kind heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife Mena, his children Renato and Débora, his grandchildren, and a loving community that he touched with his generosity.

On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, a visitation will be held at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 475 Main Street, Falmouth, MA from 8:30am to 9:30 am. Mass will be held at 10am at St. Anthony's Church, 167 E. Falmouth Hwy, East Falmouth, MA with burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery.

É com corações pesados que anunciamos o falecimento de Plácido Silveira Melo, que nos deixou pacificamente no dia 15 de Agosto, 2025. Nascido em São Mateus, Açores, dedicou a sua vida ao trabalho árduo, bondade e serviço aos outros.

Plácido foi um habilidoso talhante e desempenhou um papel fundamental na sua comunidade, sempre a ajudar os outros. Esteve profundamente envolvido nas tradições do Espírito Santo na sua terra natal e serviu como líder dos Escoteiros, inspirando as mentes jovens. O seu compromisso com a Casa de Povo demonstrou o seu amor pelos membros da sua comunidade.

Na busca de uma vida melhor para a sua família, Plácido tomou a corajosa decisão de se mudar para os Estados Unidos, superando a barreira da língua e numerosos desafios. O seu irmão Roberto, juntamente com a sua esposa Celeste e muitos amigos, desempenharam um papel vital durante esta transição, oferecendo apoio e orientação que ajudaram a família a estabelecer-se no seu novo lar. Este sacrifício coletivo criou oportunidades para os seus amados filhos, Renato e Débora, que ele prezava profundamente.

Um marido devoto, Plácido partilhou um amor profundo com a sua esposa, Mena, desde que eram adolescentes. O seu vínculo foi um testemunho inspirador de amor e lealdade. Mena foi a sua rocha, e a sua parceria foi marcada por um apoio e devoção inabaláveis. Plácido valorizou a amizade que tinha com o seu genro Darnell, que sempre foi um grande presente para a sua família, assim como com Maria João Carreiro, que trouxe alegria e risos para a sua vida.

O coração de Plácido transbordava de amor pelos seus netos: Jordan, Leila, Gabriela, Juliana, Maxwell e Levi. Ele valorizou cada momento passado com eles, partilhando histórias e risos, o que lhe trouxe uma enorme alegria.

Ele deixa os seus amados irmãos: Roberto Melo, Maria João Moules e Graça Moules. Plácido é lembrado não apenas pelo seu trabalho árduo e liderança, mas também pelo seu coração bondoso. Sentir-se-á profundamente a sua falta por todos os que o conheceram e amaram. Ele deixa a sua esposa Mena, os filhos Renato e Débora, os netos e uma comunidade amorosa que tocou com a sua generosidade.

Na terça-feira, 19 de agosto de 2025, o velório será realizado no Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 475 Main Street, Falmouth, MA, das 8h30 às 9h30. A missa será celebrada às 10h na Igreja de Santo Antônio, 167 E. Falmouth Hwy, East Falmouth, MA, e o sepultamento será realizado no Cemitério de Santo Antônio.
