Priscilla Markey Basehart of Salisbury, Maryland departed this life, after a valiant struggle with cancer, on January 15, 2025 in the loving presence of her husband, Harry Basehart, and daughter, Sarah Basehart. Priscilla was born on April 6, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio, and lived in Bowling Green and Columbus.
Priscilla was educated at Goucher College, (Bachelor of Education); Ohio Dominican University, (library science); and Salisbury University (Master of Education). She taught for 25 years at various schools in Wicomico County. As a Title 1 Reading Teacher, she enjoyed the challenge of helping students who found learning to read difficult, but teaching reading wasn't just an occupation, she loved reading novel after novel and the discussions in her book clubs. Her community involvement was extensive, especially with Altar Guild and the Opportunity Shop at Asbury United Methodist Church, MAC Inc, Habitat for Humanity, and Friends of the Wicomico Library.
Morning walks with friends and playing mahjong were her favorite pastimes. Close behind were caring for her prized azaleas and a lone Allium. Priscilla's faith in the Lord was quiet but deep. Everyone she knew was her BFF (Best Friend Forever), and her friends responded in kind. She was unassuming and considerate of others. She also liked to have a good time, when the school year ended she and a group of friends made their annual trip in a limousine to Ocean City.
Priscilla's pride and pleasure in her children and grandchildren were boundless, and they exhibit many of her characteristics. She was a wonderful example to follow.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Robert Cline Markey, Mary Elizabeth (nee Meredith) Markey, and her brother Dr. Thomas Lloyd Markey. She is survived by her husband Dr. H. Harry Basehart, her son Philip Markey Basehart, daughter-in-law Sara Basehart and grandchildren: Jenna, Flynn, and Calder; her daughter Sarah Elizabeth Basehart and grandchildren: Amelia and Fynn.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1401 Camden Ave., Salisbury, MD. Visitation is at 10:00 A.M. and a reception follows the memorial service.
