R. Dale Boyd, a long time Air Force Communications manager, passed away on November 9, 2025, in Sanford, NC after a long illness. Dale was born in Guys Mills, PA on October 10, 1935, to Howard and Florence Shaffer Boyd. Dale joined the Air Force in 1955 and served his country for over thirty-six years in the Air Force and Air National Guard, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. He served two tours of duty in the Far East, with assignments in Japan and the Philippines. During his career, Dale received numerous awards and letters of commendation. Dale retired from government civil service as Communications Manager with the 107 the Fighter Interception Group based in Niagara Falls, NY.
He and his wife Karol moved from Lewiston, NY to Gainesville, FL, where he was a volunteer at the VA Hospital. In 2002, Dale and Karol moved to Sanford, NC to be near family. Dale was an avid golfer and formed a large senior group that played around the Pinehurst, NC area.
Survivors include two daughters, Kelly Boyd Starr (Frederick) of San Marcos, TX and Michelle Boyd Davis (James) of Albuquerque, NM; grandson William Tyler Mayhew III of Durham, NC; two brothers, David (Marilyn) of Meadville, PA and Russell (Virginia) of Guys Mills, Pa; and one sister, Jean Boyd Rumsey of Buckeye, AZ.
He was predeceased by brothers, Jack and Donald and by sisters, Eloise Kosanovic and Carolyn Miller.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday 11-14-25 at 11:00AM in ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 581 CHESTNUT ST, MEADVILLE. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday 11-14-25 from 10:00AM until the time of service. Burial with military honors will be in Union Cemetery, Guys mills.
