With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rachel Loss, a loving matriarch and cherished friend, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the age of 81. Rachel was born on Tuesday, November 30, 1943, and lived a life full of love, laughter, and kindness that she shared with everyone around her.
Rachel is survived by her devoted family, including her son: James Downes, and his wife Tammy of Vernon; her daughters: Rebecca Parks and Leah Casconi with her husband Pete, all residing in Centralia. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also lovingly remembered by her brother: Ervin Elliston, Sr. and his wife Barbara; her sister: Martha Anderson and her husband Alan, all from Centralia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rachel was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her son: Christopher Downes, her precious granddaughter: Paisley Downes, her sister: Eva Fyke, niece: Grace Fyke, and her nephew: David Senn.
Known for her vibrant personality and generous spirit, Rachel never met a stranger. She cherished time spent playing BINGO, enjoyed many hours challenging herself with solitaire on her tablet, and was an avid fan of game shows, soap operas, and horror movies. A cornerstone of joy and positivity, Rachel made sure her presence was a warm and welcoming one. Her enthusiasm for life and unique ability to connect with people of all ages will be dearly missed. Rachel's unwavering love and vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. Her memory will forever be a beacon of kindness and love.
Arrangements to celebrate Rachel's treasured life are made by Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home Inc. Her family invites all who knew and loved her to join in remembering the joyous moments they shared and the love she freely gave.
Per Rachel's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home and Cremation Services at 235 North Sycamore St. in Centralia, IL 62801 (618) 532-3523, are honored to be of service to the Rachel's Family.
