Mrs. Rachel Mae (Buie) Sellers, age 83 of Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Westfield Rehabilitation and Health Center in Sanford, NC.
The Obituary
Rachel Mae Buie Sellers was born on March 21, 1941, in Sanford, North Carolina, to the late John Lewis Buie and Hattie Jackson Buie. Surrounded by loved ones, she entered peacefully into her eternal rest on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Westfield Rehabilitation and Health Center, in Sanford, NC.
Mother Rachel or "Aunt Rachel" as she was affectionately known by many, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all. She never met a stranger. Her unforgettable smile and laugh could light up any room. She loved everyone and she would often say "I love you to pieces, and if the pieces fall on the ground, I'll pick them up and love them too." She had a way of making everyone feel special. She operated in the ministry of encouragement. Once you entered her presence, she was going to give you a Word from the Lord.
She grew up in Olivia, North Carolina. She received her early childhood education through the Harnett County Public School System. She attended Lee County Training School, which later became W.B. Wicker School. She was married to Thomas Sellers and was a loving, devoted wife until his death. Mother Rachel worked for several years at Cornell Dublier in Sanford, NC. She also worked for Moen Inc, previously Stanadyne, for twenty-eight years and never missed a day of work. After retirement from Moen, she provided private duty home aide care.
Mother Rachel accepted Christ and lived faithfully serving Him throughout the rest of her life. She joined Pilgrims' Rest Church under the leadership of Elder Robert Brewer. She later became a member of True Gospel United Church of God under the leadership of Elder Perry Hester, where she remained a faithful member under the leadership of Bishop Samuel Wright. As a devoted member of True Gospel, she sang in the Gospel Choir, served as President of the Missionary Board and taught Sunday School for over 35 years. For several years, she opened her home for community prayer every Tuesday night. She was extremely creative and penned numerous inspirational poems and speeches for church events. She faithfully visited the sick and shut-in at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center while her health permitted.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. Buie and Hattie J. Buie; husband, Thomas Sellers; four brothers, Coy Buie, John Daniel "JD" Buie, Weldon Buie, and Willie Jackson; four sisters, Virginia McGilberry, Marzella Murchison, Nellie Simmons, and Maggie Walls.
Mother Rachel leaves to cherish her precious memories, a loving and devoted daughter Sandra Bell of Olivia, NC; special son Thomas Clayton McGilveary (Beverly) of Sanford, NC; grandson Antoine Bell (Daralene) of Orlando, FL; three great grandsons, Andrew Bell, Aiden Bell, and Alexander Bell of Orlando, FL; one sister Doris Sellers of Olivia, NC; sister-in-law Geneva Headen of Sanford, NC; special friends Mother Patricia Cagle; Mother Lillie Monroe; Mother Lillian Kearns; Pastor Pearline McMillian; Mother Gretchel Curry; Mother Essie Watson; Mrs. Nancy Wainwright; Jeanette Henderson and Mother Cornelia Harris; a very special friend of 53 years, Ms. Betty Varner of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
"Family and friends will be received at her home from 3:00pm-8:00pm".
