Rachele Louise Castello, age 83, passed away peacefully at home on February 28, 2025 surrounded by family. After years of suffering she is now at peace. She was the true definition of a warrior. Rachele was born February 21,1943 in Jersey City NJ to Nicholas and Rose Mangieri. She lived there, along with her brother Lou, until she met the love of her life. They began their love affair at a racetrack, where Steve pulled out a hundred dollar bill, wrote his phone number upon it, and handed it to her. What a debonaire move from the Brooklyn raised man. After their wedding, they built a home in Pompton Lakes, NJ, and began their family. To this day, almost all of her family members still reside on the same block.
Rachele was a member of the Saint Mary's Seniors of Pompton Lakes, and the Pompton Lakes Golden Age club.
Rachele enjoyed spending time in the sun being poolside with her family. Burgers, dogs, and a savory sausage sandwich were always on the menu. Make sure the Italian rolls were fresh! Reading a good book, listening to music, playing the slot machines in a casino, and of course, a good bowl of angel hair pasta, rounded out her other passions. But nothing came close to the love she had for her family. Visits, conversation, watching her family grow and seeing the young ones run around was all she needed.
Rachele was a strong woman with an even stronger personality. If you were lucky enough to have known her, you were probably at some point, spoon fed a little" Italian Guilt". Just know it was always given out of love. She was very quick witted and loved to roll her eyes and make funny faces during events or conversations, just to make you laugh.
Rachele is survived by her three sons Nicky, Baste, and Stephen; her two daughter in laws Francesca and Jenny; her brother Lou; her two sister in-laws Janet and Barbara; her nephew Matthew; and her grandchildren Jessie, Paige, Amber, Dylan, Shane, Cristopher, Stevie, and Jace.
She is predeceased by her loving husband Steve and her brother in laws Tommy and Ronnie.
There will be visitation for those that would like to say their last goodbyes, on Tuesday March 4, 2025, from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Service to be held 9:30am on Wednesday March 5th.
All will be held at Scanlan's: Where life is celebrated 781 Newark Pompton Turnpike Pompton Plains, NJ 07444
