RALPH JAMES BRACKETT

Ralph James ("Jim") Brackett, 78, of Lake Keowee in Seneca, son of the late U.S. Naval Commander Ralph Anders Brackett and Lois Williams Brackett, passed away March 29th at St. Frances Eastside Hospital after a short stay at The Pines Assisted Living in Greenville, SC.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruthe Butts Brackett, and his daughters Eleanor Jane Giavedoni (Eric Giavedoni), Julia Brackett Cook (Timothy Ervin Cook II), Rebecca Jill Brackett (Dr. Joseph Fletcher Tiller), and son Benjamin James Brackett (Dr. Candace Thrift).

Jim enjoyed granddaughter and grandson hugs from his ten grandchildren: Mary Anders Giavedoni, Eric Alexander Giavedoni, Graham Pierce Giavedoni, Grayson Ruth Cook, Timothy Ervin Cook III, Lillian Ansley Cook, Cyrus Cash Cook, Rylan Fletcher Tiller, Reagan Caroline Tiller and Sloane Thrift Brackett.

He is also survived by his sister Donna Brackett Glenn (William Kenneth Glenn, Jr. ), his brother Robert Ray Brackett (Dr. Deborah Barton Brackett), beloved sisters-in-law Eleanor Butts Watson and Ann Butts Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim earned his Bachelors (1970) and Masters (1972) degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from Clemson University and spent his professional career with Duke Power and affiliated companies. Throughout the years he served the Lord and his church as Deacon, Secretary/Treasurer and occasionally as a substitute worship leader.

In addition to enjoying his loving family, he also enjoyed boating on Lake Keowee, reading Michael Connelly novels and watching birds and white squirrels off his back deck.

The family would like to extend tremendous thanks to the staff and administration at The Pines Assisted Living of Greenville for going above and beyond, especially to Sabrina, Tyler, Colleen, Pam, Judy, Aja, Taye, Q, Marie, Pam C., Jasmine, Malika, Hannah, Skylar, Tatyana and Favia. Their attentive care of Jim these last few months has been exceptional and such a comfort. Additional heartfelt thanks goes to Dr. Michael Lee, Dee, Jessica, Jaye, Jessi, Cass and the 8th floor staff of St. Francis Eastside Hospital whose extraordinary kindness in the hardest of times will always be remembered.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 2nd, at 2:00 PM at Calvary Church in Westminster, SC. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
