Ralph Scherler

Ralph Scherler, 84, longtime resident of Brighton, Michigan passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023.
Ralph was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 26, 1938 to the late Clarence and Margaret Scherler. He was a 1956 graduate of Cleveland Lutheran High School, and a proud graduate of Ohio State University. Ralph served proudly in the United States Army Reserves as a medic. He married his beloved bride, Marilyn Hoffman, on September 11, 1965, and started a family, raising two children, Holly and Mark.
Always the consummate teacher, Ralph enjoyed helping others, giving his time, and bettering the world. This served him well as a high school teacher, and it was a teaching opportunity that brought him to Milford, Michigan. He taught at Milford High School for over 27 years, serving as a teacher in Physics and Chemistry, as well as helping as a track and football coach for many years. Ralph also helped many young students as a Driver's Ed teacher.
With his summers off to be with family, Ralph would take the family on some amazing adventures all over the United States. He was grateful to see all 50 states. Some of the family favorites were the times spent at Yellowstone National Park, and being in Colorado seeing the Rocky Mountains. Following his retirement in 1996, Ralph volunteered his time with the American Red Cross, going on missions of relief all over the United States. He was honored to help others in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, helping during flooding out west, as well as being in San Diego helping with those affected by wildfires. He was always devoted to serving others. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, students, and many strangers he helped along his path of life.
Beloved husband of Marilyn for 57 years. Loving father of Holly Turner (Chris) and Mark Scherler (Julie). Devoted grandfather of Lee Turner (Kandace), Brandon Turner (fiance Bethany Heitz), Luke Scherler, and Zack Scherler. Proud great-grandfather of Kollier Turner. Dear brother of Janet Davis (the late Jack).
Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 404 E. Liberty St. Milford, MI 48381.
A memorial service will be on Saturday, February 25, 2023, 11am at Christ Lutheran Church 620 General Motors Rd. Milford, MI 48381. Gathering will begin at 10am.
