Ralph was born on December 9, 1943, in Frankfort, IN, to the late William and Esther (Bragg) Smith. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves for over 10 years.
On May 5, 1988, he married the love of his life, Sharon K. (Lancaster) and she survives.
Ralph worked for Lafayette School Corp and Purdue University. He was a member of 1st Baptist Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW, and American Legion Post #11. His true passion was to play music.
Along with his wife, Sharon, he is survived by his children: Kandi (Brenda Mitchell) Wills of Brookston, Sheli (Drake) McGinnis of Otterbein, Penni (Michael) Tarbox of Lafayette; sisters-in-law: Darlene Smith, Melody (Marty) Crumly and Margaret Lancaster & brother-in-law Denny (Terri) Lancaster; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his, daughter, Tonya Foster, parents, and siblings Jim and Joyce.
Visitation will be held from 9am - 10am Monday, November 24th at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 10am Monday with Reverend Dwight Herin Officiating. Interment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Share memories and condolences online at www.hippensteelfuneralservice.com
