Ramiro Santiago Almengor was born on July 25, 1946, in San Pablo, Guatemala, as the eldest of 12 siblings. His early years were filled with the vibrant beauty of his homeland, surrounded by lush mango trees and coffee plantations, along with cherished trips to the river where he and his siblings played and explored. This idyllic childhood fostered a deep appreciation for nature that would follow him throughout his life.
In 1976, seeking new opportunities, Ramiro moved to Los Angeles, California. It was here that he discovered his remarkable gift for working with plants. He began a career at A Plant Affair, dedicating over a decade to nurturing and cultivating the earth. His passion for horticulture became a defining aspect of his life.
In 1978, Ramiro met the love of his life, Josefa. Together, they built a family grounded in love and shared experiences. They created countless memories through family camping trips, as well as days spent swimming and fishing at the lake. Ramiro instilled his love for the outdoors in his children and later, in his beloved grandchildren, ensuring that these traditions would continue for generations.
After retiring, Ramiro and Josefa settled in Yucaipa, California. There, he found joy in his garden, where he spent hours tending to his plants and creating a beautiful sanctuary. His neighbors often found him outside, sharing stories and laughter, embodying the warmth and kindness that defined his character.
Ramiro will be remembered not only for his nurturing spirit and patient heart but also for the unshakeable faith he held during his battle with cancer. His strength and resilience inspired those around him, and he faced his challenges with grace and dignity.
He will be forever missed by all who knew him.
