Ramon "Ray" Morris Owens, Jr., 74, of Chesapeake, Va. passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Born in Richmond, Va. he was the son of the late Ramon Morris Owens, Sr. and Mildred Anne Sauvager Owens.
Ray spent his life answering the call to serve. As a man of great faith, he was a minister of 45 years, serving in Ohio and Virginia. He received his undergrad from VCU located in Richmond, Va. and his masters in Louisville, KY from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Ray served his community well over the years. He had a heart for church discipleship and outreach. In his service to others he provided spiritual care as a hospice chaplain, enjoyed the church drama club, singing in the choir, and participating in Vacation Bible School. He was known for his laugh, to know him was to know his distinct laughter. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Owens; children, Kimberly Hamilton (Marty), Tim Owens (Emalee), and Jonathan Owens (Lindsey); and grandchildren, Clayton Hamilton, Sydney Owens, Harper Owens, and Reece Owens.

Independence Blvd. Virginia Beach, VA. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Rocky Hock United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2745 White Marsh Rd. Wakefield, VA.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in his honor to Laban Ministries International, www.hopeforcongo.com or Hope for Congo PO Box 1712 Columbia, TN. 38401. R.W. In 2000 while I was staying with my daughter and her husband, we began attending Great Bridge Baptist Church. Ray is the one who came to visit us and welcome us to the church. We could tell he was a wonderful Christian man. Fast forward to 2006 when Ted and I decided to get married on December 30th. Ray officiated at our wedding and did an excellent job. We'll never forget the fun trips he planned to Rocky Hock, NC to see Christian plays and also trips to the Amish country. Many great memories were made. Ray will be dearly missed.

So glad you shared the part about his laugh. It was the Best! I remember when I was his Ministry Assistant, hearing that wonderful laugh and walking across the hall to his office just to tell him how great it was. He was a dear soul and I am quite certain heaven is enjoying that laugh in between his singing in the choir. Thoughts and prayers to the family.
