Little Orleans – Randall "Randy" Allen Pyles, 64, of Little Orleans, passed away on July 18, 2024, after two years of a courageous battle of cancer, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born on August 18, 1959, in Cumberland, Maryland, he was the son of the late Donald E and Mildred F Pyles. Randy was also preceded in death by his infant sister Debby in 1953.
Randy dedicated 43 years of exemplary service to the Orleans Volunteer Fire Department, beginning his firefighting career in 1981. Throughout his tenure, he received numerous accolades, including multiple Firefighter of the Year awards, the Chief's Award, the Presidential Award, and various training recognitions. He was also inducted into the Allegany County Hall of Flame. Randy consistently ranked among the top ten responders for Fire and EMS calls. His commitment extended beyond the Orleans community; he actively participated in every fire department fundraiser, playing a leadership role in the two largest events: Gun Bash and Sturgis. His contributions included setting up for fundraisers, maintaining the station's cleanliness, and dedicating entire days in the kitchen during BBQ events. Over the years, Randy invested countless hours in training, serving as the training officer for several years. He held numerous positions within the department, including Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, and currently, Safety Officer. Additionally, Randy contributed to the administrative side by serving as a trustee, board member, and participating on various committees. Randy's life has been devoted not only to his family but also to the Orleans Volunteer Fire Department.
A graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1977, Randy retired from Douglas Chevrolet after over 35 years of service. He was an avid fan of both the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Redskins and an active member of Piney Planes United Methodist Church in Little Orleans, MD.
Randy is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Pamela R. Pyles, and their children: Steven Long and his wife Rhonda of Hedgesville, WV; Daniel Pyles and his wife Emily of Flintstone, MD; Staci Love of Fort Ashby, WV; and Holli Coleman of Little Orleans, MD. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Scott Long, Logan Long, Silas Nipper, Boaze Nipper, Haylee Pyles, Addisyn Pyles, Blakelyn Pyles, Abbagail Pyles, Carter Pyles, Liam Pyles, Ty Love, Brock Love, and Kaylin Love, as well as his great-grandchildren, Oaklynn Long and Easton Long. Randy's siblings include Donald Pyles and his partner Patricia DeMoss of Oakland, MD; Carole and her husband Kevin Lamp of Cresaptown; and Terri Sullivan of Little Orleans, MD. He is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family, including brothers and sisters-in-law. Additionally, Randy leaves behind a special friend, Billy Jay, who was more like a brother, with whom he enjoyed camping and riding ATVs. He is also remembered by his close friend Brian Bibbee and his beloved nephew Shaun Vanmeter, with whom he shared many memorable hunting experiences. In addition to his immediate family, Randy leaves behind many brothers and sisters who, though not blood-related, shared a deep bond through their passion for serving in the fire department.
The family would like to thank the Orleans Volunteer Fire Dept., member and surrounding Fire Companies that paid tribute and saluted his final ride in the squad to Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A.
The family extends special thanks to Home Hospice Health Care for their services and Pastor Jean Squires from Piney Plains United Methodist Church for her uplifting support and traveling great distances during Randy's time of need.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Orleans Volunteer Fire Company, 12210 Orleans Rd, Little Orleans, MD 21766. As per Randy's wishes, he will be cremated, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date at the Orleans Volunteer Fire Department.
