Randy Lee Congrove of Harker Heights was born on June 26th, 1958, in
Lancaster, Ohio, and rose to God's Kingdom on December 6th, 2023, at the still prime and young age of 65.
Randy, a loving husband, caring father, and awesome grandpa, is survived by his wife, Pong Congrove, son Randy Congrove Jr (Pinky) of
San Diego, CA., daughters Gina Toler (Keith) of Falls Church, VA, Melissa (George) of
Killeen, TX, and Linda Congrove of
Arlington, TX, as well as his seven grandchildren, Nathan, Sierra, Ian, Alana, Maddie, Noah, and Austin. He is also survived by his brother William Darnell and sisters Regina Amnah, Laura Johnson, and Vicky Hiles. Randy was predeceased by his parents, Gloria Jean Darnell and William Darnell Sr.
Randy, driven by a sense of duty and patriotism, joined the Army at a young age, right out of high school at 17. His military service took him to Korea, where he served his country and found love with Pong, marking the beginning of a beautiful chapter in his life. His career in the Army became a globe-trotting adventure, allowing him, Pong, and their young family to experience different parts of the world. The nomadic nature of military life didn't deter Randy; instead, it became a backdrop for the rich tapestry of his life. After 20 years of dedicated service to his country, Randy transitioned to a new phase of his career. Establishing himself as a well-respected System Analyst for the State of Texas, he continued to contribute his skills and expertise.
Family held a special place in Randy's heart, and he actively demonstrated this by making a determined effort to be present at every event for his children and grandchildren, often capturing memories with his ever-present camera. Randy was well-known amongst his colleagues, friends, and family as a kind-hearted man who loved to make others laugh. He was also well known as the family prankster, always looking for an opportunity to get a laugh out of the family by playfully tricking the kids. The passing down of this sense of humor to both Randy's children and grandchildren is a special legacy that continues to bring warmth and smiles for generations to come.
Randy enjoyed music and the outdoors. Playing guitar and listening to music were lifelong hobbies for Randy, who even purchased a guitar later in his life to rekindle his interest in music. Randy also loved fishing, but never alone. His fishing adventures always included his children or grandchildren. As a lifelong learner, Randy also had a gift for evolving technology and communication systems. His expertise in this field made him one of the few Grandpas who knew more about computers than his grandchildren!
Never one for formality, Randy left an indelible mark on the lives of those around him. Dressed in his signature khaki pants and polo shirt, he was a constant presence, offering nuggets of life wisdom to friends and family. Although scoring the same signature work man's look daily, it didn't stop him from displaying unrelenting support for The Ohio State University football team. He took special joy in seeing his team routinely dispatch other teams on the gridiron on Saturday afternoons during football season, surrounded by family.
Incredibly humble and kind, the home he created with Pong continues to serve as the gathering place for family to meet, laugh, and share memories. His kindness, good humor, and humility will be cherished and carried forth by the next generation of children and grandchildren.
