Randy D. Cummings

Randy Dale Cummings, 68, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022 at his home.
Randy was born October 13, 1953 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois to Presley and Myrna (Garrison) Cummings. He married his high school sweetheart, Donna (Story) Cummings on June 16, 1972. They would have celebrated fifty years together this year.
Randy worked many years selling Chevrolets and Oldsmobiles at Svanda Motors and two other local dealerships. He was very dedicated to his job and was considered one of the best salesman in the area. He was a member and served as deacon at Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Kingsmen Car Club and the Elks lodge. He loved doing woodworking and built several beautiful pieces of furniture.
Randy is survived by his daughters, Marinda (Rindy) VanMatre and her husband Jason of Opdyke, Illinois, Kiley Stevens and her husband Jason of St. Peters, Missouri; grandchildren, Rance, Rylan and Jayda of Opdyke, Illinois, Jaley and Kaleb of St. Peters, Missouri; sister, Myrna Sue Martin of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; brother, Gary Cummings and wife Judy of Florida; sisters-in-law, Ruth Ann Cummings, Lovetta Joy and Billie Sue Story; brother-in-law, Larry Story; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Presley and Myrna; brother, Ron; brother-in-law and best friend, Terry Joy, brothers- in- law, Gene Martin, Leon Story; and sister-in-law, Ann Story.
He was very family oriented and loved his girls and grandkids so very much so much that they all got almost anything they wanted. He was also blessed with two sons-in-law that he was very proud of. He was also known to buy the biggest and best things for Donna, if he heard her mention anything she needed or wanted, it would be there for her. We will see you soon, Southpaw!
A Visitation will be held Sunday, May 22, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 23, 2022 at 10:00 am at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Dr. Jason Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois Memorials may be made in Randy's honor to SSM Health at Home Hospice or Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church.
