Randy Schafer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Voss & Sons Funeral & Cremation Services on Mar. 30, 2023.
Randy L. Schafer, 61, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023. He was a long time resident of Seymour.
He was born May 11, 1961 in South Bend, IN to Thomas Carl and Loretta (Szlay) Schafer. Survivors include his long time companion, Carolyn Ellington of Seymour; daughter, Jen Schafer (Chris) Gabehart of Mooresville, NC; son, Isaac Schafer of Seymour; mother, Loretta Schafer of Bonita Springs, FL; two brothers, Bryan (Lisa) Schafer of Blue Ash, OH and Scott (Jeanne) Schafer of South Bend, IN; sister, Renee (Buddy) Williams of Auburn, AL; and two grandchildren, Leona and Fletcher Gabehart.
Randy was a Purdue graduate with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He was currently working for Cummins in Columbus and had been previously employed by both Rolls Royce in Indianapolis and Aisin USA Manufacturing in Seymour.
Randy believed in staying active and useful through community service. He passionately served as a board member of the Seymour Oktoberfest for 25 years. He was an active member of the Seymour AA group, serving as Secretary and leading meetings for the past 8 years. Randy was a devoted Dad that volunteered to help with Jen and Isaac's activities, coaching Odyssey of the Mind or Little league or just cheering from the sidelines.
His hobbies included fishing, golf and traveling, but most of all, he loved gardening. He kept an extensive flower garden and had the knack of being able to propagate and grow anything. He enjoyed giving planting tips or plants to anyone that would take them.
Randy was well known for his gentle, kind nature and constant positive attitude- always a friendly smile. Randy will be greatly missed and his memory cherished by everyone that knew him.
A memorial service is pending for later in the Spring.
Online condolences may be shared with the Schafer family at www.vossfuneralservice.com. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Don and Dana Myers Cancer Center, 200 S. Pine Street, Seymour, IN 47274.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Voss & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services.
