In Loving Memory of Raquel Amada Ortegon
June 7, 1938 – September 13, 2025
Raquel Amada Ortegon was gently called to her heavenly home on the morning of September 13, 2025. Born on June 7, 1938, in Laredo, Texas, she was the beloved oldest daughter of Juan and Vicenta (Sandoval). Raquel's life was a testament to love, faith, and family.
A devoted mother to six amazing children, Raquel was the heart and soul of her family. Her beautiful smile could light up any room, and her love for sweets was well-known to all who shared a table with her. More than anything, her unwavering faith in the Lord guided her through every step of life. She took ownership in all that she did-whether it was caring for her loved ones, sewing beautiful clothing and Halloween costumes learned from her father, or preparing meals that brought the family together.
Her love for others was seen in her twenty plus years of service at Krogers. She knew all of her customers, and they would often see her out of the store and stop to visit. It was true – she never met a stranger.
Raquel was not only a mother but also her daughters' best friend. Her love was felt in every pinch she gave-a playful reminder that she cared deeply. She cherished family above all else, and her legacy lives on in the warmth, laughter, and love she shared.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandson Johnathan Jett, her husband Ernesto, and her parents Juan and Vicenta. Raquel leaves behind a rich legacy of love with her children Diana (Tomas) Palacios, Pat (Abe) Romero, Ernesto (Diana) Ortegon, Luis E. (Maria) Ortegon, David (Carol) Ortegon, and Letty (Billy) Jett; her sister Cookie (Paco), her brother Abran (Eustolia); along with twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.
Raquel's love, faith, and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. Though she has gone ahead of us, her memory will continue to inspire and comfort all who knew her.
"I will always be there for you"
