It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rashida Martyniuk, age 42, who left us suddenly from an unexpected illness on April 3, 2025. Rashida's vibrant spirit, boundless love, and dedication to her family will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Born on August 14, 1982, in the Bronx, NY, Rashida was the beloved daughter of Maxine Atkins (nee Wharton) and Otto Atkins. She was a loving mother, and nothing brought her more joy than being with her two children, Nova and Kai. Rashida's pride and love for her children were truly unmatched, and she poured every bit of herself into raising them with love, care, and guidance.
Rashida met her soulmate, Matthew Martyniuk, while they were both studying abroad in Australia. Their bond was instant and grew as they traveled the world together, living in several countries and states before settling in New Jersey 11 years ago. Over the course of their 15 years of marriage, Rashida and Matthew built a life full of love, adventure, and shared dreams.
Rashida had a passion for reading and could always be found with a book close by. Her love for animals was another cherished part of her life, and she enjoyed caring for and raising them. She loved to travel, and to find new experiences all around the world, from her time spent living in Sydney, to teaching English in South Korea, and more recent family vacations to the New Jersey shore and Disney World. Most of all, Rashida loved a quiet evening spent at home with a cup of hot chocolate and a family movie or game night.
In addition to her husband and children, Rashida is survived by her parents, Maxine and Otto; her five siblings, Erika Jones, Nicole Jones, Larry Jones, Keniesha Jones and Ganiyo Atkins; also numerous extended family members and friends who will forever remember her warmth, kindness, and vibrant presence.
Friends and family may visit to honor Rashida's life on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 5-8 PM at the Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94 Blairstown, NJ 07825. There will be a private green burial. In lieu of flowers, a donation for the children's future education would be appreciated. If you feel compelled to send flowers anyway, Rashida loved tiger lillies.
Rashida's time with us was far too short, but the love and joy she gave to this world will live on through her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be greatly missed.
