Ray “Gene” Herrick, 89, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at his home in Lehigh.
A come and go visitation for Gene will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Inurnment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh. Ray Eugene Herrick was born on December 27, 1935, in Lehigh, Iowa, the son of Roy Eugene and Mabel Vivian (Rounds) Herrick.
Gene graduated with the Lehigh High School class of 1953.
On January 19, 1958, Gene was united in marriage to Arlene Kay Hotek in Lehigh. To this union four children were born: June, Steve, Mark, and Paul.
Gene was employed by Lehigh Sewer Pipe & Tile for 32 years, and later worked at Dayton Farm Drainage until retiring in 2006. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Gene was a former board member of the Lehigh Credit Union for many years.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, son, Paul M. Herrick in 2006, brothers, Larry, Don, Garry, and William Herrick, sister, Gertrude “Darlene” Buenting, and son-in-law, Lawrence Mumper Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Herrick of Lehigh, IA; daughter, June Mumper of Dayton, IA; two sons, Steve Herrick of Lehigh, IA, and Mark (Sherri) Herrick of Webster City, IA; six grandchildren, Eric Harrison, Michelle (Nate) Scheibe, Marshall Herrick, Calvin Mumper, Courtney Herrick, and Dalton Herrick; four great-grandchildren, Clark Scheibe, Margo Scheibe, Kegan Vangilder, and Ezmae Vangilder; sister, Beverly “Janie” Littlejohn; and many nieces, nephews.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
