Raymond "Ray" Betances

Raymond "Ray" Betances, 59, a lifelong resident of the Monmouth County Bayshore area, passed away peacefully at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ, on Saturday, December 30, 2023. Born on July 28, 1964, in Long Branch, NJ to Ramon Semidei and Barbara Betances, Ray was a man of warmth, laughter, and an unforgettable presence that brought joy to all who knew him.
Ray was the beloved husband of Lisa Betances, with whom he shared 33 years of devoted marriage filled with love, support, and cherished memories of family vacations. He was a proud father to his son Noah Betances, whom he always supported during his school activities and sports, he was always there on the sidelines or in the stands and continues to carry his father's legacy of kindness and strength. Ray's life was marked by the love he had for his family, including his two nieces, Nicolle and Stephanie Hansen, many cousins and friends that were like family, and the memory of his late son, Andrew Betances, his parents, and sister Michelle Hansen who predeceased him.
In his professional life, Ray dedicated 37 years of service as a dental lab tech at Combined Dental Services, where he was known for his meticulous craftsmanship and his ability to brighten the workplace with his infectious smile.
Ray's interests were as vibrant and diverse as his personality. He was an enthusiast of culinary arts, often found watching cooking shows and trying out new recipes, which he delighted in sharing with friends and family. His passion for cooking was matched by his love for sports; as an avid fan of the Jets and Yankees, Ray never missed a game and enjoyed discussing the latest plays and scores with anyone who shared his enthusiasm.
A significant part of Ray's life was his involvement with the Keansburg High School football team in the mid-90s, where he assisted his lifelong friend Jon Schultheis on the sidelines during their triumphant State Championship wins in 1994 and 1996. His support and encouragement left a lasting impact on the team and the community.
Ray's commitment to helping others extended to his former membership in the Little People of America. He participated in weightlifting competitions, showcasing his strength and determination, and became an inspiration to many within the organization. Ray also volunteered his time as an assistant leader and mentor to the Cub Scout Pack 209, and Boy Scout Troop 88, both in Middletown, NJ
His faith played a central role in his life, and he was a dedicated member of the Anchor Bible Church in Keansburg. Ray could often be found volunteering his time and talents to the church community, whether it was through maintenance, event organization, or simply lending an ear to someone in need. He expressed his love of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by serving those in need through the "Bridges at the Shore" program.
Those who had the pleasure of meeting Ray will remember him as a man who never forgot a face or a story. He had the unique ability to make everyone feel seen and heard, ensuring that each time he reconnected with someone, the conversation would pick up right where it left off.
Ray's love for action movies was well-known, and he relished the chance to catch the latest flick before enjoying dinner and conversation with his best friend, John Squicciarini, and other companions who cherished these moments with him.
Above all, Ray's heart belonged to his family. His unwavering love, guidance, and the laughter he brought into their lives will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who survived him. Ray's legacy is one of genuine connection, steadfast love, and the joy of living each day to the fullest.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 4-8pm at the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals 233 Carr Avenue Keansburg. On Friday, January 5, 2024, there will be a 10:00 AM service at the funeral home and the burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Middletown
