Raymond Bernard Dunton
Raymond Bernard Dunton (74) of Glencoe passed away on January 27, 2022 eight weeks after heart surgery from which he never fully recovered. Ray was born in Biddeford, ME, on March 4, 1947, and is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nina Street Dunton; children Jessica Dunton Fidalgo of Saco, ME, and Allan Keith McMahan (Sheila) of Lumberton, TX; four grandchildren, Toby and Phoebe Fidalgo and Jackson and Reagan McMahan; several nieces and nephews; siblings Barbara Bouchard of Cornish, ME, Beverly Chaloult of Biddeford, ME, and Ronnie Dunton of Cape Elizabeth, ME.
He is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tara (Barbara Boutet Russell), and parents Bernard and Rita Martel Dunton.
Ray graduated from Biddeford High School (1965) then attended the University of Maine before joining the US Air Force in 1966. He was stationed at Bergstrom AFB, TX, Pease AFB, NH, RAF Lakenheath, England, UK, then Gunter AFS in Montgomery, AL, where he was an information specialist. He left the Air Force after 12 years and sold new and used cars at Jack Ingram Motors in Montgomery, then sold library books for Gumdrop Books before he and Nina started the Buy/Sell Bulletin classified ad magazine in Northeast Alabama, which they owned for 25 years before he retired in 2017.
Though raised Catholic, Ray was a member of North Glencoe Baptist Church, and faithfully attended. He looked for opportunities to help people and was loved by everyone he knew. He loved Jesus and enjoyed reading the New Testament aloud daily with Nina during the last year of his life.
Burial and graveside service will be officiated by Pastor Thom Harrison on Tuesday, February 1 at 12:30 pm at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Honorary pallbearers and special friends: Danny Blevins, Michael Hancock, Ray Johnson, Reynald Breton, Dickie Agreste, Tom Honigschmidt, Jim Billingsley, Spencer Turner, Bobby Waldo, Ian Street and Ben Anglyn.
