In Loving Memory of Raymond S. Gutierrez
Raymond S. Gutierrez, 89, of Saspamco, Texas, passed away peacefully on January
31, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, loyal friend, and faithful servant of God, Raymond lived a life full of passion, integrity, and selflessness.
Born on June 20, 1935, in Saspamco,Texas, Raymond was raised alongside his four brothers, Aurelio (Wello), Elisandro (Tando), Johnny (The Tiger) and Alfred (Porkey). Together, they shared countless adventures, laughter, and an unbreakable bond that carried them through life. After graduating from Floresville High School, Raymond answered the call to serve his country and proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he learned the values of discipline, courage, sacrifice and proudly earned the rare and highly-coveted President's Hundred Shooting Badge, awarded by the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
For 67 beautiful years, Raymond was married to his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Gloria Gutierrez. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership, filled with shared dreams, unwavering support, and countless cherished memories. Together, they raised four children, Michael, Dennis, Lori, and Rebecca, teaching them the importance of family, faith, and kindness.
Raymond dedicated his professional life to hard work and excellence. He served as a foreman for both Dickey Clay and Acme Brick, where he was respected for his leadership, expertise, and commitment to his work. His dedication to his craft left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the community. A man of simple joys and a deep appreciation for life, Raymond found happiness in the outdoors. He spent countless hours fishing at the Laguna, camping at the river, golfing under sunny skies, and playing baseball with the Saspamco Pipers. He enjoyed the calm satisfaction of a well-rolled cigar, often accompanied by the gentle breeze of nature. In his downtime, he loved a good gamble -- whether it was playing cards with his weekly Friday night friends, rolling dice, or enjoying the excitement of a slot machine on the casino floor. His love for games of chance brought him joy and a little extra thrill to his adventurous spirit.
A devout Catholic, Raymond lived his life guided by faith and compassion. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Saspamco, where he served as an altar server when the Mass was still in Latin. Raymond found comfort, purpose, and had a loving devotion to God and his cherished Saspamco community. Raymond is now reunited in eternal peace with three of his brothers, Wello, Tando, and Johnny, and the many loved ones who went before him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he leaves behind, including his beloved wife, Gloria, his children, Michael (Janie), Dennis (Grace), Lori Marroquin and Rebecca; his grandchildren, James, Joshua, Brandon, Zachary and Gabby Gutierrez, Dustin and Derek Gutierrez, Sabina and Marina Marroquin, and Seth Saenz; great grandchildren, Olive, Arlo, Vivienne Gutierrez, Colt Lorenzo Ortiz, Sienna Ava and Zavien Robert Saenz; and his many friends and extended family members.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, love, and support during this difficult time. A viewing at 9:30am with a Rosary at 10:00am will be held on Wednesday, February 5th at Vinyard Funeral Home. A Mass and Burial will follow at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Saspamco at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the many organizations and nonprofits that Raymond supported.
Rest in peace, Raymond S. Gutierrez (June 20, 1935 – January 31, 2025). You taught us the value of love, faith, family, hard work and a little bit of luck. You will live forever in our hearts.
