CELINA -- Raymond W. Harruff, 80, formerly of Spencerville, passed away at 8:54 PM Saturday in the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, following an extended illness.
He was born August 15, 1942 in St. Mary's, a son of the late Cloyd "Dutch" and Lona L. Schaffer Harruff. On December 23, 1972 he married Nancy L. Witherow, who survives.
Also surviving are their 5 children, Kathryn (Marvel) Armentrout of Lima, Lola (Tim) Ketchem of Meadville, PA., Carolyn (Roger) Krouskop of Spencerville, Bryan (Deanne) Harruff and Delores "Mag" (Jerry Smith) Gile, both of Celina; 19 grandchildren 48 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild and 5 siblings; Vernon (Mary) Harruff of Chicksha, OK., Muriel "Pat" "Trish" (Gary) Gallimore of St. Mary's, Albert Harruff of Wapakoneta, Beverly Shaner of St. Mary's and Carol Mays of Spencerville and in-laws Shirley Harruff of Delphos and Diane "Liz" Joseph of New Carlisle.
Preceding Ray in death are 2 grandchildren, siblings, Hazel (Carl) Longsworth, Richard Harruff, Robert "Boots" Harruff, infant Paul Eugene Harruff, and Douglas Harruff; and in-laws Sally Harruff and Robert Shaner.
Ray attended the Spencerville Schools and went on to serve a total of 8 and one half years in the Army, then in the Navy, discharging in 1966. He worked at the former Reliable Buffing Company as a "Buffer" and retired from the Ohio Decorative Products Company after many years of work.
He was a member of the Harry J. Reynolds American Legion Post 191 and the Allen County Archers Club, both of Spencerville. He loved and owned old cars and hot rods over the years.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 PM Wednesday, with his service at 3 PM Wednesday with Pastor Jim Fletcher officiating in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. Military rites will follow in the funeral home by the Navy Honor Guard and Spencerville Veterans.
Burial of his cremated remains will be at 10 AM Friday in the Spencerville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Celina/Mercer County EMS.
