Raymond A. Lumio, 72, of Chesterfield, NJ and a longtime Hamilton, NJ resident, passed peacefully in the early morning hours of June 17, 2025, at Serenity Hospice at RWJ Hospital in Hamilton, NJ. Ray was always an early riser, so his departure before the sun came up seems fitting. Born in Trenton, NJ, to Samuel and Gloria Lumio, Ray is survived by his wife Colleen of 51 years, his daughter and son-in-law Marcey and Bob Vernon, grandsons Matthew, Nicholas, and Jason Vernon, daughter and son-in-law Janine and Jonathan Wheaton, and grandsons Charlie and Jack (Teddy) Wheaton.
Everyone who knew Ray knew one thing for certain – he could fix anything. He was the one family members called for everything from car troubles to home repairs. The list of those who depended on him was long, and he loved nothing more than helping whenever and wherever he could. He was always just a phone call away.
Ray's love for working with his hands naturally led to a fulfilling career that began at Princeton University in the Maintenance Department. Ray spent nearly 20 years at Princeton and eventually led the department. His responsibilities included managing behind-the-scenes operations for Commencement, Reunion, Special Olympics, and all the special events on campus. While at Princeton, Ray earned his bachelor's degree from Trenton State University (now The College of New Jersey). After leaving Princeton University, he joined the Sheet Metal Workers International Association before finding his way to the Hamilton Township Department of Housing and Inspections as a Construction Official. While working for Hamilton Township, Ray also taught construction code courses as an Adjunct Professor at Mercer County Community College. Ray retired in 2018 after more than two decades of dedicated service to the community.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ray's most important roles were as son, husband, father, father-in-law, Pop Pop, brother, brother-in-law, dog father, dog Pop Pop, Christmas ornament crafter extraordinaire, softball coach, mentor, PTAA School President, soccer chauffeur and cheerleader, cookie baker, pancake maker, Knights of Columbus and Lion's Club member – and an overall amazing human who touched countless lives throughout his extraordinary journey.
Ray, Dad, Pop Pop, you will be missed beyond words. Thank you for all the happy memories and precious time we shared. We love you and take comfort knowing you will live in our hearts forever.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 21,225, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by an entombment at Greenwood Cemetery Mausoleum in Hamilton, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to the American Liver Foundation. To make a contribution in Ray's honor and to learn more about metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (NASH), please visit www.liverfoundation.org.

I have known Ray since 1980, we worked together at Princeton University. He was always crafting beautiful Christmas ornaments, there would be hundreds hanging in his shop. He will be greatly missed. Fondly, Dave and Debbie Perna
