Raymond “Ray” May passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at The Pearl of Jamestown Assisted Living Facility.

Ray, a native of Port Allen, was born in 1948. He graduated from Port Allen High School in 1966 and went to train as a registered X-ray technician at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas, completing his certification in 1968. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted and chose to enlist in the U.S. Air Force, He served four years at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base in Belton, Missouri.

After his discharge, Ray returned to Baton Rouge, where he worked as Chief Technician in the radiology department at Doctor’s Memorial Hospital. He later transitioned into the sale of X-ray equipment and eventually held administrative positions at Digital Diagnostic Center and Baton Rouge Radiology group, retiring in 2013.

Ray was a true people person who made many lifelong friends from all walks of life. He was happiest spending time fishing at his camp in Chauvin whenever he had the chance.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman May, Sr. and Katherine May, and his brother, Truman May, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Burns May of Baton Rouge; his son, Darrin May (Kendra) and their children, Payton Lenhart, Michael, and Jaxon May of Prairieville; and his daughter, Stephenie May Thiery (Jonathan) and their children, Ellen and Elise Thiery of Lafayette.

The family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff of Audubon Hospice and The Pearl of Jamestown for their compassionate care of Ray and the support given to his family over the past two and a half years.

A private burial for the family will take place at a later date.
